I am in the process of getting material, etc... to attempt to make Princess Leia's Ceremonial Gown, and wondered if anyone had links or suggestions for a dress pattern I may use. I have a dress that I've worn to conventions before, but it definitely does not meet the RL standards for costuming.
Any suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!! I'll check it out.
I'm not a skilled seamstress by any means, so I'm looking for a simple pattern I can follow for the dress and figure I can sew on the sleeves/wings after I get the main part done. _________________ SandieMac

Raychel, I had not seen that!! Wow! There IS a pattern! Wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing! As I said, I'm not the best seamstress and honestly, my daughter is a theater major who makes her own cosplays (she's into the Manga stuff) so I'm going to get her to help me make this!
Muchas Gracias again!!!!

No problem. We are still working on our forums to make things like this easier to find. Good luck and don't forget to post pics and ask questions as you go along. Everyone here is great at helping one another. _________________ Stay on Target |

Thanks!! I've noticed from the forums that everyone is very much like a family here. Very helpful and super nice. Well, we all share the same passion and love for Star Wars. I feel I'm amongst my own - FINALLY!! So glad to be part of this community.
Also... I've been a fan since my dad took me at 8 years old back in '77 to see the original Star Wars: A New Hope at the theater. So much a fan, that my son's legal middle name is Lando.
I really appreciate all the help!

Anyone know a good seamstress in the Triangle area?
I think I spent more on materials, pattern, and time trying to get this dress done than it would have cost me to have someone professionally make it.
BUT, at least I can say I tried and now I definitely know I was not born to be a seamstress.
Thanks for the advice everyone. _________________ SandieMac

Hey Sandie our base XO Kim is a great seamstress she does commissions, but unfortunately she's booked till November..but I'm sure she can help you out. She's located in Raleigh. Do you need any help with the shoes, bracelet, necklace, hair, etc? I was able to find my bracelet and shoes on ebay (I had to dye the shoes though.) For the shoes, just try a search for "2 inch dyable pumps." There is a seller on etsy who makes great Ceremonial Leia necklaces, that's where I got my necklace. |

Thanks Liz!
The shoes and hair I've got covered, but if you would pm me info on the necklace & bracelet that would be wonderful! I looked through Etsy a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't find anything.
I'll have to contact Kim and see if I can get on a list with her.
Once again, I really appreciate the input. _________________ SandieMac

To be honest, the chiffon of the outer dress is also a PITA to work with. This is not the easiest costume to make. (I made three versions of this before I was satisfied, so.. yeah ). It was a lot of trail and error, but I'm glad I finally managed to get to a point where I'm satisfied with the result. I do have a thread about my costume somewhere if you're interested. _________________

Thanks Lora. I think I'm just going to give up trying to do it myself before it costs me any more wasted money and leave it to the professionals! I think I found a seamstress that will work on it for me.
At least I can say I tried. _________________ SandieMac

Alright. Maybe find another, easier to make costume first so you can gather some experience and learn your way as a seamtress. We all have to start somewhere. (Trust me, my first SW costume was horrible). _________________

LOL, I got mine approved earlier this year and I definitely was not happy with all of it either. I'm currently redoing part of the front to make it more like I want it to look. I plan to start from scratch down the road and do another copy too.
I got my necklace from the ebay seller as well, and the bracelet I got from a ebay store from china that had really cheap silver bracelets that look fairly close. I want to mod it later to have the swoop in the front. |

Swfangirl, yeah, I know how you feel. Although I'm satisfied with my current version I still have that 'I could do this better...' thought. But since I got to hate chiffon while working on this dress I've kinda promised myself I'm not doing it again. Only upgrades will be to the accessories.
My bracelet was a cheap find on a town square marked; it has roughly the right proportions, but not the right pattern. I'd love to someday get the real deal, but that is crazy expensive. XD _________________
