Ok...so here we are as of today:

The back is done:

The belt is done:

The mini flares are in primer......

now back to the front of the vest...
I still have those windows and what not to put in...

but I decided to start some test pieces for the belly pouch using the tan piece I started to make...

well...

this attempt looks stupid....course the belly tube/whatever is just sewn on a flat piece of fabric...but still looks stupid...

Back to the drawing board on that....lol..

but...
maybe tomorrow....
or the next day...

Laughing

Yeah, that's the only thing I don't care for about the RotJ Y/W pilot is that goofy pouch: It resembles a fanny back.

I like the thickness and shape of your vest, too. Lookin' good!

the white nylon vest is only padded with a layer of batting....
and it is really too long at this point....but the length is really going to serve as part of the backing for the bottom/belly tube/whatever portion...

I wanted to leave a few inches to give me some room to attach the bottom/belly tube/whatever piece...

and going over again what Skaught said initially and in comments on Jeff's...there will be no "window" on the left (right in the photos) side of the vest....
there is supposed to be some "yellow triangle"...but...Scott does not say how large...I am going to guess that it is small...
and...
I think I may have some interesting greeblie pieces in the works..

again...trying to figure things out with just a description...

Here's a zoomed up picture of the mysterious yellow patch. It's on the right side of the picture (pilot's left). It doesn't appear to be too large.

ahhhhh....forgot to look at that photo...

so it is actually like a little square piece of fabric with the yellow rectangle ON the little square piece of fabric....

One of my biggest problems is (and will only be getting worse)
very poor eyesight...
but...
when you get to be my age....that is just the way it is...

where I don't have a white cane with a red tip yet...I really can't see well at all....even with glasses on...so making out some of those things is near impossible for me...

Found some interesting pieces when I googled "vintage Bendix"

and zeroed in on a few pieces that looked like the one on the flak vest...

google:

BENDIX WALL MOUNT CONNECTORS
(also PN 72304812-9P)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-MILITARY-MIL-SPEC-BENDIX-WALL-MOUNT-CONNECTORS-87-246397-246394-C9-4-2K-/230994012655

also found some similar pieces used in vintage aircraft instrumentation:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-BENDIX-AIRCRAFT-COCKPIT-RADIO-MAGNETIC-COMPASS-INDICATOR-36146-IAM-3013-/390573280001

With the likelihood of not being able to find something original...
I had Alex send me one of his pieces that was broken and he wasn't going to use...
I wanted to get a feel for the size...

so...
I might try to make something similar from scratch

Alex's Bendix greeblie piece on the left...and one I am making on the right...

don't know if I have enough molding supplies left to mold and cast...
this piece is a lot smaller than I thought it would be...

Shocked

What size is yours?

The one above seems really small...

I can't speak for the Y-wing vest, but all I know is that the Bendix connect I use is the accurate size for the B-wing pilot vest. Razz

I did make one before I bought a Bendix, and I made it out of a piece of tin (for the square base) and an end to a sink faucet. It worked pretty well but I can't remember how the sizes compared.

Maybe it's just me, but the black greeblie that's next to the vertical ribbing right under the chestbox looks like a black plastic ladder lock (or maybe a metal one). Something like this...

I made mine using an actual female 3 pin connector and shortend the lenght and mounted it on a aluminum piece i made for the mount. I can measure it if youd like because im not sure of the diam but the mount back plate with the 4 holes i made from a 1" square.

Sounds good...thank you both for weighing in...the piece that I made in the photo is on a 1" square piece of sintra....
so...
1" it is...

I only have enough molding material for one shot at this...so I wanted to double check...

If the mold is successful....I can cast up a few...

thanks again for your input...
it is always appreciated...
