Welcome to Ryloth Base and the Rebel Legion!

As Ben Kenobi once said: "you've taken your first step into a larger world" ―Obi-Wan Kenobi, training Luke Skywalker to use the Force.

We're glad that you've showed an interest in us. You will find that we are a very fun group to be in.

We'd like to offer a few things to help anyone who wants to join the Rebel Legion and become a part of Ryloth Base. Ryloth Base is the South Australian chapter of the Rebel Legion. We started out as Tatooine Base which covered all of Australia. In October 2012 we formed Ryloth Base to provide our members here in South Australia we a more local presence. We started out as a small base, but recently, we have had several new members join, and our future looks very bright.

The first thing we'd like to mention about wanting to become a member is how much fun we have. Not only do we have fun doing what we do, it can also be a very rewarding experience. We not only do events like pageants, and promotional appearances, but we do charity work as well. We pride ourselves in working with such groups as Cancer Council Relay 4 Life, Kidsflix & Childhood Cancer Association, just to name a few.

What is involved in becoming a member? Well, all you have to do to become a member is to have a Rebel costume.... any "Good Guy" from the original and prequel movies, comic books and novels, animated series, and video games. We have a variety of costumers here in Ryloth Base. If there is a particular costume that you'd like to make, I'm sure one of our members has either made it, is going to make one, or knows someone who has made one. So help is here if you need it. So your first step into becoming a member is to submit a costume to the Rebel Legion. To do that all you have to do is fill out a membership application found here: Membership Application. Read all of the instructions on how to submit a costume. It is very important that you read all of it. If you need help with submitting a costume, please feel free to ask one of us. And it is also a good idea to post a photo to get some real constructive criticism before submitting a costume. That way you get an honest critique from some of our members and guide you with anything that they see that you might not have caught.

After submitting your application, it will take some time for the application process. Once the costume judge has looked over your costume, he or she will send you a welcome email. After getting your welcome email, we will post your approved costume on our forum under the correct detachment welcoming you to our base.

The best way to get started in the Rebel Legion is getting yourself out to troops (events). If you are still in the process of making your costume, don't worry, you can still participate in troops as a wrangler. A wrangler comes to events and helps out with the costumers. Maybe you'll be in a pageant and be the person that helps carry people's belongings and water. Maybe you'll be at an event, and one of our members will need assistance in getting dressed. It may look easy getting into some of those costumes, but sometimes another person is needed to buckle things, snap things, tighten things, or just help holding a mirror.

Once you go to a troop, introduce yourself. Don't be shy....as all of us were once in your shoes. Trooping an event can be really fun. We've done events such as working with the Red Cross Tasmanian Bushfire Appeal, marched in the Norwood, Glenelg, Salisbury & Golden Grove Christmas Pageants, have done Sean Williams book signing events, John Williamson Star Wars in Concert, and working hand in hand with the Southern Dewback Squad (TAG) at Adelaide: Oz Comic Con, Armageddon & Supanova in raising funds for Relay 4 Life or the Childhood Cancer Association.

We as a base also work hand-in-hand with the Southern Dewback Squad (TAG) of the 501st Legion. We have become really great allies with Southern Dewback Squad. You will find that some of us are members of both organisations. Our love for Star Wars runs deep, and sometimes we can't help ourselves in joining "the dark side" of the force Smile. But seriously, we troop along with them at almost every occasion. Most non-fans or the casual Star Wars fan doesn't realise that we are separate entities, and they assume that everyone belongs in the Star Wars Universe. Hopefully one day both groups will be under a joint banner, and we can truly become one Star Wars costuming organisation. But in the meantime, we troop with them, and you will see that a lot of our events are posted or cross-posted on the (Terror Australis Garrison) Southern Dewback Squad forum. In that case, you will need to register with the Southern Dewback Squad (TAG) Forums.

If you are working on a costume, feel free to post a work-in-progress thread in Ryloth Costume Builds & Props. Doing that will help you, out in getting your costume approved. Plus we love seeing the progress on a new costume. There are also several threads dedicated to specific costumes. So go check out those threads, to see if you can get some good tips and advice there. If you aren't so lucky at getting a response from one of those threads, then try posting one here. We will do our best to help you out anyway we can. We will occasionally hold costume workshops as well so be on the lookout for those so you can work on your costume with others and get a lot of great help.

Be sure to check out the "Rebel Rumblings" Forum, you'll find a New Recruit FAQ section there to get more acquainted with our forums, rules and regulations, our charter and so on.

Good Luck! And May the Force be with You! Ben rebelbird

I want to extend a big thank you to Daphne (Funky Buns) of Bespin Base for allowing me to use much of this content from her awesome post!
