Yup all is well with the Wook Very Happy

I'm working with one of the ladies down here and we're going to start looking for fabric for my Ep3 Obi-wan and I love the fabric you've used and would like to get the same/similar fabric you used.

Great work on that belt too!

I couldnt believe it back when I was searching the planet for great material to make Jedi tunics!! Its really a pretty good look. I was walking through Linecraft not expecting to see anything great, but see this textured material out of the corner of my eye. The colour is slightly more coffee in person but is VERY close to some of Ewans promo shots. I didnt have to dye it, pleat it, steam it - it just worked! OK up close it doesnt have the EXACT woven grain as the movie but certainly from more than a couple of meters it looks VERY close. It also was available in black if any Darth Mauls are lurking around Smile

Here is a pic of a bit more of the material in tunic form...

I havent checked on it for a while, but at the time they sold out and werent sure of future shipments. They said it was a raw silk blend????

I bought as much as they had as I thought it was unusual and "close"

If you still like it after seeing the bigger pic, and cant get hold of any, find out from your lady how much you need for your costume and I will send you what I have. ( definitely enough for your tunic )

Shay.

Hey BeeJay, and anyone else down under looking around for material to make a Jedi costume. I just have an update for you re the material above that you were keen on.

I was in Lincraft today and we have managed to identify the batch / material from a swatch. It is in fact pure raw silk hopsack. Very surprised - even the sales lady was shocked - but yup, raw silk.

They are chasing it through the supplier and should have word on its availability in a day or two. ( I'll post it then )

There was another material I saw while I was there however, ( pic below )
that was a very light, textured material that I think would make an excellent tunic.

The colours arent particularly accurate ( sorry just used a phone camera ) but the one on the left is the one you liked previously and is a lot more milky coffee colour ( its actually called coffee in the system ) and the new one on the left is a very buttery cream.

They both look very good options for tunics so if anyone is interested I can source the codes and they should be available from any Lincraft across Australia.

Hope someone finds this helpful. Smile

Regards,

Shay.

Guys just a quick question regarding the new belt above..

The underside of the belt, isnt stained it is just the raw leather colour. I would have liked that dyed as well but the belt maker said he never dyed them as the colour may "bleed" onto the costume when worn.

Has anyone experienced this? I would tear my hair out if it bled onto the obi. Crying or Very sad Surely there must be a way to dye the underside of the belt and have it behave itself ???

Any info would be welcomed, thanks everyone.

Shay.

I'm curious about this too. I'm working on my belt and had planned to dye both inside and out......but hadn't thought about the bleeding thing..... I was going to use a dye and a finish, so maybe that would help? But yeah, I'm curious on this too!

I've done this on all my belts, and the only time it -bled-
was when you laqcuer the insides as well.

If you just dye it, the leather will soak it up pretty well and
it shouldn't give any problems.

But as with most leather 'experiments', try it on a smaller piece first.
Take a piece that's just dyed, and a piece that's laqcuered as well,
and rub it like a maniac over a small piece of your obi-material.

My First Belt did bled on to the obi. That was only after a hot day of trooping and the belt sweated onto the obi.

I've not had that trouble with bleeding dye.

What I've done is dye at least over the edge onto the back or even the whole back of the belt. I rubbed the Sith out of it to get rid of the excess dye, then put a sealer/conditioner on the whole belt (to help keep the leather "moist" and pliable...it's something you do once or twice a year). And, so far, I've not had any bleeding on my OWKesque costume or from my black/gray Jedi (that uses a black belt).

I will be making a few belts coming up in the next few weeks and will be doing pics for a tutorial. Stay tuned in the Jedi Tutorial forums for this way of making Jedi belts.
