<<Cross-post from my Base Forum>>
Well I've had this Jedi sitting in the cupboard for a few years now so thought I'd see what people think I need to do to get it approved. I bought it from costumebase for my wife's 21st about 6 years ago. Still fits and looks good Very Happy (Photo is not current)

And i've just bought these on ebay:

I'll use the lightsaber I got for my wife a couple of years ago:

http://www.parksabers.com/jaded-deuce.html

I know I need to get pouches & food caps but is there anything else I need to do.

I'll eventually replace this to an Ep3 Obi-Wan.

Hi BeeJay,

It looks good, from what I can see. The usual proviso, I'm not a costume judge, lol. However, the minimum requirements are all there, as far as I can see. The only thing I can't see is a Covertec clip for your Saber, do you have one?

Generic Jedi Standards wrote:
Formal Requirements:

You must have at least three items from the list to be formal.

1. Large Jedi robe or cloak, similar to movie canon robes/cloaks, in allowed color palette, with attached hood.
2. Leather or leather-like belt pouches (at least 2)
3. Full or false inner tunic in similar color scheme as outer tunic (dickie / full & mock turtlenecks, mandarin style collars ok). If optional inner tunic is used and long sleeved, then outer tunic may be sleeveless.
4. Food pellets (at least one set of 4).
5. A-99 Aqua breather.
6. Jedi communicator.
7. Droid caller.

I hated it when people quoted standards to me that I'd studied hundreds of times before. However, it's handy here.

You have an inner tunic.
You mentioned food capsules.
You mentioned two leather belt pouches.

These three items will carry you across the formal line. I always like to go for four items, and would throw in the robe as well... Costume judges, like everyone else, like having leeway for flexibility...

Yup, this is what you get when you order a ParkSaber

I'll upgrade to a proper covertech soon enough though.

Jason gave sage advice!

I would only point out that the costumebase costumes are generally not acceptable for face character costumes. In my experience as an LCJ, we generally find WAY too many things that need modifying for commercially produced Jedi costumes (more so for face characters) to make it NOT worth the costumer’s efforts in buying the costumes and modifying them (which costs even more money). This is truly unfortunate for the costumer…especially when (if the skills/desire are present) the face character costumes can be made for less than half of what these commercial companies sell them for.

Having said that, I believe the museumreplicas face character costumes are better than the costumebase costumes (and, please understand that I’m NOT endorsing museumreplicas). There are threads upon threads discussing the various modifications (and reasons for mods) for these costumes.

And…having said THAT…the costume you have pictured looks pretty darned good. The only thing that REALLY jumps out at me is the skirt on the outer tunic isn’t long enough or full enough for a formal Obi-wan Kenobi costume. And, I would bet the sleeves aren’t lined with a “satin type” material, as it is in the films. There may be other mods, but…it does look pretty good!

My advice would be to get your optionals and apply for Generic Jedi. Your application should fly through the judging process without problems.

PS (Your boots are fine...for Generic Jedi. Your lightsaber...is freaking sweet!!! Wink )

Thanks for the great responses guys.

Master SithariRog, this costume is ONLY for Generic Jedi. Smile Have been spending a lot of time reading over the standards for both Generic and Obi-wan (as well as doing a lot of lurking in the Jedi and Obi-Wan forums) and am all too aware of the limitations of this particular costume in regards to Obi. Heck, as sweet as my lightsaber is a MKIII it is not LOL Very Happy

I've asked a good friend of mine to make my specific Obi-Wan Ep3 robes later this year and have already approached JDOS for some boots. I'm also in the process of researching lightsaber construction to make my own MHS OWK E3 blade, which is going to set me back about $400 in parts plus shipping and labour (my own), but every jedi must construct their own lightsaber! Very Happy I'll post a thread in the Lightsaber section when I have a few more details.

Thank you SithariRog!

I knew that there was controvacy about costume base, but was unsure of the details, so I simply looked at the costume as a generic and used what I could see. I agree, the Saber is awesome. Covertec clips are available from ultrasaber for $10, best to try and get them as part of an order from someone local, as shipping is a real killer. But a clip is a clip! I haven't seen the park sabers variant before, thanks BeeJay!

Boots arrived last night so had a quick test fit. I know I need to pull in the tabbards at the rear.
