Here is a picture of my Hoth Han Solo. The coat took 2.5 months to make, and is a functioning coat. We made out own pattern by using photos of the actual prop. There is an inner collar, but the inner scarf is in front of it in this pic, the final pics will be done correctly! The only thing I still need to make is the ESB Belt. One of my progress pics was placed onto the RPF facebook page by a third party, so I am aware people wanted to know who it was that had done the coat.

So Here it is!

I am not LCJ, but I think ESB belt, ESB tools and White electrobinoculars with attached shoulder-strap are needed for approval ...

Anyway ... Darman Solo is on good way Wink

The ESB Belt will be made this weekend as the weather will be warm enough here to stain the leather. Then I will submit for approval, and hopefully be granted membership!

Hiya,

The costume is coming along very nicely indeed. There have been many times when the traditional British weather has made me wish I had a Hoth Han costume! I hope you are ready to put the coat into production...

Being an LCJ it's my job to be critical, but this isn't a judgement, just trying to point out anything short of perfect (the judging process does NOT require perfection).

After the gunbelt buckles that you already know about, the next incorrect thing is indeed the belt tools.

Another thing that stands out is the quilted parts of the pants - they really stand out as a very different material. I would definitely address this. From all the references and screen grabs I've seen, they really look like they should be made out of the same material as the rest of the pants.

Then make sure you have all the necessary parts and requirements met (including the ESB Han DL44).

You can also see a bit of what looks like black stretchy bits on the tops of the shoe part of the boots which stands out against the much lighter rest of them. Are they stretchy elastic parts next to the tongue to help the boot stretch to be put on? If they weren't so dark they wouldn't be noticeable at all. I point this tiny detail out as it is the kind of thing I would notice on my own costume and it would bug me until I made the tiny fix to cover the black with something. When a costume is this good, it is worth getting the easy to fix small details right just for your own satisfaction.

Good luck.
Greg

Thanks everyone. Will be working on the belt/tools this weekend. I already noticed everything pointed out, and am working to correct/ cover them.

Hey Kerry,

Do you have any tips as to where you got the gloves and goggles from? If I had to guess those are some vintage goggles, but more curious as to where you got yours.

IF and WHEN we decide to produce them, will probably be a while, it did break one machine, and ended up being done on an industrial machine!
Should we decide to take that on...we'll let everyone know! As of right now, there are no plans to produce them....it was a chore to do this.

Hey Robert,
They are vintage goggles( Smith), picked up on ebay. They were originally gray, and had to be painted white. Han's goggles also had the white foam padding, these where gray. Due to them being vintage, I'm having a hard time finding replacement padding, so I am using a watered down white paint to change the padding color...makes them a little stiff, but if you want accuracy, it may not always be comfortable Shocked As a former Stormtrooper and current Jango Fett in the 501st....comfort is a luxury!

The gloves where picked up at the local Harbor Freight Tools (Welding gloves) and then added some slight modifications to make them more accurate. The com was made by me out of sculpy, and based on pics of Luke's com.

I am also making the Electrobinocs, after finding a tutorial on the net from Gattaca Models and Props. Since I'm 6'3" the sub game conversion looks way to small (You can also see that when Han is walking into Echo Base, the binocs are pretty good sized : Per Blu-Ray) I had to borrow a scroll saw to make the eye pieces, so I hope to start that tomorrow.

Any other questions, feel free to ask! I'll help as much as I can!

Making progress on the ESB Belt to go with the costume : I still have to sew the pouches on, finish the front buckle and "keys" to the holster sling...

Here's some Electrobinocular progress. Pieces to the puzzle to building full size binocs!
