Welcome to Alpha Base (and the Rebel Legion) forum! As Ben Kenobi once said: "you've taken your first step into a larger world". We're glad that you've showed an interest in us. You will find that we are a very fun group to be in.

We'd like to offer a few things to help anyone who wants to join the Rebel Legion and become a part of Alpha Base. Alpha Base as you know is the Washington State chapter of the Rebel Legion. We've been around for quite some time now, and believe it or not, we were started by one of the founding members of our local 501st Garrison as well.

The first thing we'd like to mention about wanting to become a member is how much fun we have. Not only do we have fun doing what we do, it can also be a very rewarding experience. We not only do events like parades, and promotional appearances, but we do charity work as well. We pride ourselves in working with such groups as Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Down Syndrome Awareness, and Children's Therapy Center in Kent just to name a few.

What all is involved in becoming a member? Well, all you have to do to become a member is to have a Rebel costume.... any "good guy" from the original and prequel movies, comic books and novels, animated series, and video games. We have a variety of costumers here in Alpha Base. If there is a particular costume that you'd like to make, I'm sure one of our members has either made it, is going to make one, or knows someone who has made one. So help is here if you need it. So your first step into becoming a member is to submit a costume to the Rebel Legion. To do that all you have to do is fill out a membership application found here: Membership Application . Read all of the instructions on how to submit a costume. It is very important that you read all of it. If you need help with submitting a costume, please feel free to ask one of us. And it is also a good idea to post a photo to get some real constructive criticism before submitting a costume. That way you get an honest critique from some of our members and guide you with anything that they see that you might not have caught.

After submitting your application, it will take some time for the application process. Once the costume judge has looked over your costume, he or she will send you a welcome email. After getting your welcome email, we will post a thread on the Alpha forum welcoming you to our base.

The best way to get started in the Rebel Legion is getting yourself out to troops (events). If you are still in the process of making your costume, don't worry, you can still participate in troops as a handler. A handler comes to events and helps out with the costumers. Maybe you'll be in a parade and be the person that helps carry people's belongings and water, or maybe even be the parade banner carrier. Maybe you'll be at an event, and one of our costumers will need assistance in getting dressed. It may look easy getting into some of those costumes, but sometimes another person is needed to buckle things, snap things, tighten things, or just help holding a mirror.

Once you go to a troop, introduce yourself. Don't be shy....as all of us were once in your shoes. Trooping an event can be really fun. We've done events such as working with the American Red Cross, marched in the Seattle Seafair Torchlight Parade, Barnes and Noble Book Signing events, Star Wars in Concert, and working hand in hand with Garrison Titan at the Emerald City Comic Con raising funds for the Children's Therapy Center in Kent, as well as the Derby Days, Kla Ha Ya, and the Edmonds 4th of July Parades during the summers.

We as a base also work hand-in-hand with Garrison Titan of the 501st Legion. We have become really great allies with Garrison Titan. You will find that some of us are members of both organizations. Our love for Star Wars runs deep, and sometimes we can't help ourselves into joining "the dark side" of the force... heheheh... But seriously, we troop along with them at almost every occasion. They get most of the invites, but they always try to extend the invitation to our members. Most non-fans, or the casual Star Wars fan doesn't realize that we are separate entities, and they assume that everyone belongs in the 501st. Hopefully one day that will change, and we can truly become one Star Wars costuming organization. But in the meantime, we troop with them, and you will see that a lot of our events are posted or cross-posted on the Garrison Titan forum. In that case, you will need to register with the Garrison Titan Forums, and once you are a member of the Rebel Legion, one of their officers will make sure that you are granted access to all of the available forums.

If you are working on a costume, feel free to post a work-in-progress thread. Doing that will help out in your costume approval process. Plus we love seeing the progress on a new costume. There are also several threads dedicated to specific costumes. So go check out those threads, to see if you can get some good tips and advice there. If you aren't so lucky at getting a response from one of those threads, then try posting one here. We will do our best to help you out anyway we can. We will occasionally hold costume workshops as well so be on the lookout for those so you can work on your costume with others and get a lot of great help.

Be sure to check out the "Rebel Rumblings" Forum, you'll find a New Recruit FAQ section there to get more acquainted with our forums, rules and regulations, our charter and so on.

Good Luck! And May the Force be with You! Ben rebelbird

I want to extend a huge thank you to Daphne (Funky Buns) of Bespin Base for allowing me to use much of this content from her awesome post!
