Hi all

There is a link below to some pics on flickr of my Rebel Endor Trooper costume in progress. Please may I have some feedback so I can get everything right before submission.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/59696352@N07/sets/72157631786718894/

The Helmet has been cut down and reshaped with foam inside the ear parts. The jacket is a snow smock dyed beige and then painted with camo. All fastenings have been taken off. Trousers are beige again with camo painted on. Gloves are surplus US paratrooper with the wrist strap turned the other way round. Gaters are US surplus. Desert boots with toes painted for more authenticity. Webbing US surplus. Blaster DH 14. T shirt ultra rare surplus 70s ...

Thank you Duncan

Overall, your costume looks great. Excellent work on the gaiters. The only thing I really notice wrong is the color of your shirt. Standards say it needs to be beige/tan/sand colored and yours looks green.

I'm not an expert on the coloring, but it looks good to me. Looking forward to having you as a member of RAID.

Yes...the shirt must be tan/sand

Unfortunately, those WWII gaiters are no longer acceptable...

This is what the current ERS standard has to say about gaiter construction:

Gaiters - A tube of heavy Cotton/Natural fabric starting from the bridge of the foot (covering most of the laces) continuing up past the boot top to slightly below mid-calf. 5-8 sets of eyelets (depending on your measurements). No clear photos of the laces have been found yet; most likely surplus olive-green “para-cord” was used. Color: The originals appear to have been made from a tan or sand material, but were so heavily dyed and painted to appear used they look dark brown or olive when actually seen on screen.

they should look something like this and they are fairly easy to make...pattern and tutorial is at the Endor Bunker Yahoo Group:

I am not sure how much of a stickler the clearance teams are - but the donut still appears to be the wrong shape. Its too straight and such. ANy chance of closer up pics?

think its great that you are trying to mod the CB donut, have thought abt it myself

Where not entirely thrilled with the shape of the donut (as noted it is not the right shape),

as a costume judge for the Troopers I would accept the donut.
I have, in the past, accepted Costume Base donuts that HAD been modified.
CB donuts in their "as is" form are not acceptable...

hope that helps...

We do have some folks selling some really nice donuts right now...so...
upgrading would be what I would advise...

Thanks for the links i have made the body af the gaiters in sand heavy cotton and will start on the tongue and lace holes later . The helmet link i think was the one that i followed i also ran a flame over the fuzz on the ear bits it made them harder and a bit better looking and put gray foam inside the holes. Thanks all i will post pics later.

Thanks Suzi
I have now posted on the UK forum and have made my gaitors. I am amazed at how friendly and supportive everyone has been. It has been so helpful...even down to a link to a pattern to make my gaitors-fantastic!
Cheers Duncan

I have added pics of my gaitors to my flickr set (link below). The material is a sand coloured heavy cotton and I sewed the eyelets in. They were too new looking for the rest of my costume so I have added patination with a good tea dunking!!
Will add more pics when they are dry
