Transmission intercepted - Report by Evil Dave of Garrison Carida.

Trooping today we had:

Kyle McHenry (TK)
Wally Peters (Capt Rex)
"Evil Dave" Johnston (ETB)
Tom Kness (Elmer Fudd dressed as X-wing pilot)
Cadet Melanie Smith (Squire)

It all started out a little bit rough as this event's start time coincided with IUP's Homecoming parade that went right in front of the library. The parade started at 10:00 and our event at 12:00, and we had some minor issues getting into the library's parking lot at 11:00 because a lot of roads around there were blocked off for the parade. After that, it was pretty much smooth sailing.

While we were changing, around 11:50, I got a call from my sister. She said she was standing outside and there was a line of people waiting to get inside (the library didn't open until 12:00 due to the parade). So that seemed like good news to me. We then made our way down to the kids room downstairs where the event was to take place. I thought there was a pretty good turn out of kids for this event. I noticed a couple different waves of folks coming in at different times. I heard more than a few people say they saw us at the library last year and were anxious to come again this year to see us again.

Helen, one of the librarians, had 4 or 5 tables set up with the various activities for the kids to do: coloring pages, mazes, Yoda origami, pop-up Clone Troopers, etc. There was also candy, popcorn and Yoda Soda for the kids to enjoy. I thought this was actually a fairly easy troop because all we really did was walk around and mingle with the kids and parents as they worked on their crafts. And, of course, we took many pictures. I don't know about the other troopers, but time flew for me. At 1:30, Helen held a raffle for some of the give-aways that were sent to her by the SWRD people. After that, the place pretty much cleared out. I think we were done just before 2:00.

After suiting down, we all went to eat across the street at the Pita Pit. I'll post a link to some pictures once I get something from Melanie. A big thank you goes to Wally and Kyle for making the trip to Indiana...and especially to Kyle for coming up when there was an event much closer to his home that he could have gone to. Thank you, everyone!

P.S. - As a fitting end to SWRD, my copy of "The Essential Reader's Companion" was finally delivered and waiting for me when I got home! Very Happy
