I sprayed the inside of the poncho today, which I'm glad I started there. Some parts my finger got in the way and it would spray droplets. I should invest in one of those new things you can attach to a spray can that has a handle trigger on it. Anyway... not sure I like it yet, I'll have to see it on. I went for more of a bold camo look than the more mottled look in the tutorial because it seemed to me Leia's poncho had larger areas of color. I'm not sure yet it I like how it mottled or if I should try to make it more even on the front. It was windy so I had to lay it on the grass behind a fence. Hopefully tomorrow will be less windy so I can try a flatter surface

Inside after it was more dry

The colors, and fabric (especially if you're painting it on both sides), will soften up after you wash it too.

I washed the sample I did and it did come put nice and soft! I plan to cut a few rips in it and it'll fray just enough to look like the damage has been there awhile

I saw somewhere someone talked about a type of artists chalk they used for aging, does anyone remember anything about that? My helmet fabric looks too darn clean

So you want to add weathering to the top ridges and/or the bill of the helmet?

I think they were referring to charcoal or maybe conté crayon. The thing with those is that they'll most likely rub off all over everything. What I would do, for a permanent, non-smearable weathering is to use a wash of brown acrylic paints. For replicating dirt weathering Don Bies (the guy who did model and droid work like R2 and 3PO for eps 1-3) recommends umber, burnt umber, maybe a bit of ochre...rarely ever black, it looks too fake.

*whew* here it is!

I'm pretty happy with it. I think the colors faded a bit in the wash so I might go over it again with the paint (but not this week, my arm is sore and I got a blister just from spray painting!) I tried to spray it in pretty much the same color pattern she had and I found it was much easier to follow a picture than to randomly put down color like I did on the inside. I snipped a few holes in it where she has them, and I put leather flaps on the helmet under the "ears".

I just hope I don't freeze my arse off at the event this weekend!

Wow, seeing it put together with the rest of the outfit, along with the background it looks fantastic!

Just make sure you put some crackers in your pouch just in case you bump into some hungry ewoks. Ewok

Wink

Sending warm thoughts your way for this weekend...

I'm totally late to the party, but it looks just great, Vera. I can't wait to see it in person.

Vera - I was wondering, which colors did you use for painting your poncho? I see the colors listed on the Endor Trooper Camo Painting Tips thread for Han and general troopers, but wasn't sure if Leia's poncho used the same colors.

Leia's is greener than the ERT's or Han's duster. I remember when I saw it last night...hers is really got a lot of greens in it as opposed to the regular ones.
