Hey troops,

Just sent my pictures in for my X-Wing Pilot. Here they are:

For my character I am the son of Prudii. He was Null 5, an Arc Trooper. They were bigger and stronger than all the other clones. During order 66 he and others fled to Mandolor were he met my Mother Onnie. She was a Pilot for a bounty hunter guild. At 10 my Mother started giving me flying lessons while My Father instructed me in the Art of War. At 18 I left home to be a smuggler. On a smuggling run I had a chance to help some rebels flee Imperial death squads. I was injured and when I woke up I was on Hoth. I could no longer do ground missions, but could still fly. Princess Leia gave me a field commision and a fighter wing. We call ourselves the Flying Krayt Dragons.

Great looking gear. I'll head over to the Costume Queue to check it out closer. In the meantime ...

(1) Post that helmet in the "Show Us Your Helmet" thread, it looks great! And,

(2) While I like backstories, just so you know, the RL's Elstree Base's RLSC Squadron is the 1138th Krayt Dragons.

Ah shucks, Thanks you guys!

I put a lot of effort into my suit and helmet. I did the flight suit myself, made my own holster and pouches. Made my own beltbuckle for $5.88 from a steel rod and an aluminum one. The only thing I didn't make was the chestbox, a "put together yourself" kit for the helmet, and the arm tools.

In my 501st garrison I am the guru guy for making stuff and coming up with solutions for costumes. I have made a working gatling gun for my ARC trooper and about to make another stormtrooper armor for a fellow trooper.

Nice job on the outfit. The helmet came out great. Smile

Mind if I ask how you dirtied it up? I know you "scratch" it up with sandpaper, but how did you get the dirt/burn streaks? I've been planning to weather my B-wing pilot helmet, and I've been asking around about good ways to do it.

Once I get the base paint done, I took different grades of sandpaper. I used a wet/dry sandpaper because of how fin the grit is to do a all over wash. This dulled the paint down. Then took a 40 grit and just brushed over sections to give it deep scratches. I then took acrylic paint and added water to it to thin it out. Make it look like really muddy water. I took a cheep brush from walmart and applied the paint. I waited for about 5 minutes then wiped it off. Try different times for how much you want the dirty look. Take a low gloss clear paint to cover between applications. This will keep from you loosing all the progress up to this point. I later took silver paint and brushed it on the different edges and sides. Some bigger than others. This gives it the look of scratches and loss of paint. TO give the 3D look I took a fine tip brush and outlined the silver with black and grey. You can paint right over decals or take a blade and cut the decals up. Lastly when you have the desired effect clear coat it again. Before doing anything get cheap plastic and do some practice runs. I do two or three test for each stage before doing it to the helmet.
