Hi everyone. I have just purchased some data cylinders for my X Wing costume and I was wandering what the best way to paint them is. Would a chrome spray paint work? or just a regular silver spray paint? Or should I be doing something totally different??

thanks

Unfortunately, most of the aluminum or silver spray paints can rub off on anything they touch.
Adding a clear coat would stop this, but then it changes the color to more of a darker grey.
You best option would be to paint them with chrome paint and add one coat of clear over that.
That gives the best appearance without having it rub off. Just don't add more than one coat of the clear as it will darken the color.

Just a clear spray paint. If you ask in the paint section they have gloss and satin.

I'd say go satin finish.

I used the Rustoleum "Professional" 7515838 - Aluminum http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=95 on these scratchbuilt DH-17's. With two years if trooping nothing has rubbed off or even scratched, and this is painted over over wood, PVC and styrene parts:

Unlike the "chrome" paints, this stuff dries rock hard!
