Off to a great start, Daniel - it's very exciting to have a droid in our area! You're now on a strict diet of weeds and jawa juice.

Now is Jawa Juice liquid Jawa or something else alltogether?

Nice looking bling so far!

This is quite an impressive build. There are very few Threepio's around, owing the fact that the armor accommodates one very specific body type only.

Are you going for the pristine look from the end of the movies or are you going to weather it up?

The chrome looks very good. Would I be correct in assuming it is vacuum metalized or did you use some other process?

Could you elaborate on the process you used to get it ready for chroming? What state was the armor in when you got it? What all did you have to do to it to get it its glass-like smoothness?

Thanks,
Matt (Chewie with a box full of Threepio parts that will one day be a backpack).

I am not sure what happened to my earlier post.
It says it posted successfully, hmmm.

Anyway.

Thank you Sir Matt.
To answer your inquiry, Yes the look will be pristine. The weathering will happen naturally, i think. Besides, who doenst like shiny gold things? Smile

The chrome is a process known as CosmicChrome. Its a spray process that consists of a 2 part primer, then automotive coat, then silver layer, then top coat with color tint, ( gold) This costs alot more the Vac Meatlizing, but the results are just as good, and its more durable, especially for a costume.

The company i used is here in Pa, Coat of Chrome. Don, the owner, has done a few suits before, and has an impressive list of clients, including Disney Florida. When i went to pick up my suit, Don was finishing the stunt Idols for the Indy show. Very cool indeed. He has also replated the Ark of the Covenant for Lucasfilm. Not sure which one though, but that's another film.

The prep work is the key for plating. Everything must be smooth. Sand, sand, then sand some more. 1500-2000 grit wet sand. Even with this process, every small imperfection will show. There is a link in the first post to the blog i created chronicling the build.

With my suit, the vac Meatlizing wouldn't have worked due to the nature of some of the pieces. Vac Metalizing requires a coating to be BAKED, and i thought some of the pieces would warp, or worse.

hope that answers some of your questions. Thanks again and maybe ill see you soon, or threepio will.

Very Happy Very Happy
