The next celebration in Europe (CEII) will be in Messe Essen, Germany from July 26 – 28, 2013. Who’s going?

Germany tourist visa is not required for citizens of United States for a stay up to 90 days.

Also within our territory of WY, CO & NM, there are German Consulates located in Denver, CO and Albuquerque, NM.

A friend stopped over and my wife joined in on the conversation regarding CVI. She asked him if he was going to CVII next year. He mentioned, “It will be called CEII and it will be in Germany. I am planning on going.” She turned around and asked if I was. I mentioned to her I wasn’t planning on going. She mentioned, “You can go if I can.” With that, the planning begins.

I've done some research. The reason for me to go is to see my great grandmother's home in Hamburg. It's about a four-hour drive from Essen. No matter how you cut it the Eurail is $100 a day, even with the 3-6 day packages ($300-$600). Hotels also seem outrageously expensive, unless we get a whole bunch of us crammed on the floor of one hotel room, then it might be something like $75 per night per person.

It looks like the only way I'll get to see Hamburg, my ancestral land, is to find someone to drive me there. Have you thought about a travel agent making all the arrangements (flight/hotel/transportation/etc) for us? They could include sightseeing for a small group of us. I know at least one person in San Francisco going. Maybe we can start an American group with all arrangements handled by a travel agent. Just a thought.

Matt and I will be teaming up regarding the hotel and he's in charge of that department. I will see up he has come up with.

I do what to minimize the expense as much as possible. The US dollar is weak.

Well, I had been saying I was going, but it's a moot point now.
Tickets are on sale ($126 US for two and a half days?), list of hotels in the area are up. No official hotel, no group/package/convention rates. Hotels are $104 to $250. Rhine river cruise for six days was $1200 plus taxes, and taxes in Europe are outrageous (don't complain about our taxes anymore! LOL). Food is way too expensive (expect to pay at least $30 per meal), nothing in walking distance of the convention center so count on transportation costs (and they're high, too). Airfare still at about $1600 rt (plus taxes, of course).

All told count on at least $3000-$5000 for one week, which is all the time my boss is giving me. I just can't justify spending that kind of money for seeing the same props the Belgiums had at CV and CVI. I won't have time to really see the country (or any other country for that matter).

After talking to my boss and doing some soul searching (and the fact that Hugh keeps leaving me off his list), I've decided to spend $1000 instead on an RV trip to Louisiana this coming Christmas. If I'm going to feel left out and lonely, I might as well eat some good true cajun food in warm weather at Christmas time in my vacation home on wheels.

Sorry, guys, just can't afford this (if it was a couple thousand maybe, but it'll cost that much just to get there and back!). Say hi to all the droid builders for me, and get some candy from Sigge (droid builder from Netherlands).

It was a good thing my wife can read German. I just purchased a ticket for Star Wars Celebration Europe II. The entire ticket purchase website was in German. This was an eye opener for my trip to Germany this summer.
