Thanks guys!
And I have more progress! I didn't feel like digging my dress form out of the coat closet, so I just hung the panel off my bookshelf instead.
That's two vines of six down!
And here's a close-up of the top part of both vines, still on my hoop.
The tie-offs are definitely my least favorite part, but even at that distance, it's hard to tell in the photo where the stitches got a bit uneven. So, I guess that should appease the perfectionist in me.
One trick for anyone planning to do this one later, or similar corded embroidery: always fray-check the ends of all of the cording. You have to let it dry for a few minutes before you can start stitching it to the fabric, but it helps so much in keeping the cording from getting unruly.
I've given myself a deadline for this too. Terrapin Base's biggest event of the year is a baseball game on June 22, so I am shooting for that one. I'll need to pick up the pace, but finals will be over in about two weeks, so I should have more time once summer hits. _________________

Thanks all!
I was having one of those days today where all I wanted to do was embroider, so I managed to finish the right-most vine in one day. Behold!
That was so much less painful, short like that. Haha. It's partner vine will be equally nice, though the left set is longer. _________________

More progress!
Pardon the iPod photo quality, but I finished both of the shorter vines and now I am on to the last pair. I will get this done yet! _________________

Woohoo! Plugging along here. Vine #5 is done and I started in on the final vine this morning.
Of course, the rightmost two vines are hiding, but you get the idea.
Meanwhile, I am collecting all the materials I need for the rest of the costume. I've decided that I want to do a corset/stay for the top. Satin is not forgiving, and if I can flatten myself and make it look like I have a skinnier waist, that will get me closer to cartoon character shape. To that end, I'll need to readjust my mockups and patterns once the corset is done, so getting started on that is next on my list. Materials, however, are still in the mail.
I think I'm going to get myself a pair of purple flats for this. I am not as short as Padme, and all of the Anakin costumers in the bases I frequent are not so much taller than me that I can get away with heels.
These look like excellent trooping shoes. _________________

Guys, guys, guys!
Nine months later, I can declare victory over the embroidery. Now I can actually move on to other parts of this! _________________

Thanks Dawn!
So, in case it wasn't going to be sparkly enough, I added 74 2mm Swarovski crystals--one to each vine branch. It's really hard to photograph, but when the skirt moves, it's so very worth it. That extra twinkle is amazing.
For scale, here's how tiny those beads are:
I got the crystals quite affordably here.
So no one calls me out for adding more sparkle for no reason, you can see in the screen shots that something is catching the light at the end of the vine curls. I decided to go with the tiniest faceted crystal beads I could find to try to get that effect in real life.
