Hello,

I am new to the forum. I've been reading topics for more than a year, but now it's time for me to start a topic as I am working on a few costumes for the upcoming Star Wars convention in Orlando.

My main costume is the Yavin Ceremony outfit worn by Mark Hamill at the end of Episode IV.

You can see it here:

and of course, it comes with the yellow jacket.

You can also see the costume on this page: http://twinrosesdesigns.com/Star%20Wars%20Inspired%20Clothing%20Portfolio.html
I talked to this costume designer but she can't help me since she is fully booked until CVI, so no excuse for me, I have to make it happen with my own hands. I am sure it would rewarding, but if and only if I am able to make it on time, and this is where I really need your help.

- I already own the jacket, and the medal (from Museum Replica, not the best jacket but it does the job and I am not even sure yet if I will be wearing the jacket or not. I was at CV and even with the AC it was not very cold inside the convention center... ).

I need:
- A holster,
- A pair of boots,
- The pants (The Han Solo Style Brown Cotton Twill Trousers with Embroidered Old Gold Bloodstripes),
- The Shirt (Black Cotton Broadcloth Shirt similar to Han's Solo shirt in ESB).
- Blaster and Lightsaber Replicas.

My deadline is August 25th (Star Wars Convention). I've found a local tailor to help me, but your piece of advice will be priceless.

My first question is the following:
Regarding the bloodstripes, I've found two vendors. Both seems ok, but you might have already ordered from them. Your guidance will be more than welcome.

CostumeCostume:
At the bottom of the page:
http://www.costumecostumecostume.com/patches.htm
and here https://sites.google.com/site/jediranger/corellian-bloodstripes

When I compare with the original design, I am afraid I am gonna be too far of, but I have no other choice. Pre-made design from CostumeBase and cie are horrible.

Here is the original design:

My plan is to buy the stripes, then go shopping for a dark brown color pants (as close as possible to the background of the stripes I'll get), and have them added to the pants by the tailor who is helping me.

What do you think?
Do you think these Corellian Bloodstripes are OK?
Do you think there is another option for the pants?

Thanks a million

Regarding the Holster, I am thinking about that:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/100075778/star-wars-luke-skywalker-style-leather?ref=sr_gallery_21&ga_search_query=star+wars+costume&ga_order=price_desc&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_page=2&ga_search_type=handmade

http://img1.etsystatic.com/000/0/6784129/il_570xN.317355469.jpg

Actually, it would be more accurate with a pilot belt from Corellian Imports:
http://www.corellianimports.com/utbeho.html

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-49645532931840_2212_18824308

If I combine one of their belts with a holster, that should work

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-49645532931840_2212_18871172

+

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-49645532931840_2212_19026093

Obviously, I need the black version of the belt.
My only 'concern' is about the holster. I am supposed to use the Leia ANH Blaster and so the holster would be too short, or I would have to remove the bottom. However, I doubt I can find an affordable replica of the Leia ANH blaster and I might just have to go with a replica of Solo's blaster.

Regarding the Boots, I was thinking about one of these models:

Dafna Winner SyntheticTall Show Boot
http://www.crazyhorsetack.com/stshbodechme.html

Derby Synthetic Tall Show Boot
http://www.crazyhorsetack.com/sytashbodeco1.html

Derby Rubber Boot (they seems to be similar to the ones above)
http://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/Derby-Mens-Rubber-Boots-P2314.aspx

The Cadet Flex Men Rubber Boot
http://www.adamshorsesupplies.com/The-Cadet-Flex-Mens-Rubber-Boot-P751.aspx
and here
http://www.doversaddlery.com/cadet-flex-boot-mens/p/X1-38158/?ids=nyubmyvl14mytc45mw4z1hb5

I am not a fan of rubber boots but if I can find something of a better quality with maybe some faux leather at a reasonable price, I am in.

Finally, regarding the shirt, that's simple, I have no clue how can I make one. Mr. Green
I don't even know if this is possible in so little time.
I would love to buy one from someone but I couldn't find any (finding a white one is not a big deal).

Thanks JedHead! This is useful.

This guy did a really good job:

Obviously, I am not the only one running into the same issues.
The holster is definitely different than what can I get from Corellian Imports:

This might be more accurate:

However, I really need to find a resine of Leia ANH's blaster, even Sideshow got it right:

That's gonna be impossible to find besides if I spend $1k on that and in this case I wouldn't even want to carry it around at a convention. I'll rather leave it in a display case. I think I am gonna have to find another blaster. Too bad in terms of accuracy.

I also need a lightsaber. Mark Hamill use one in the famous photo-shoot and I think it looks cool:

What would be the cheapest replica I could find? Graphlex? http://graflexsabers.com/
Do you know how can I fix it to the belt?

For the boots, I also found these ones http://www.equinenow.com/store-item-1622
Do you guys think they look better than the ones listed above?

Let's talk about the jacket for a second.

Like many I am not 100% satisfied with the MR's jacket.
However, doing some research, I realized that they were not that far off.
In fact, it seems like it depends of the light exposure. Due to the nylon-based material used for the jacket, it might look more or less shiny:

Check this out:

That said, I would love to make it a bit more shiny.
Any idea how can I do that? Can I find a spray?
I don't want to damage the jacket either or make some spots.
Is that worth the try?

There were some blasters for sale here:

http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39442

As far as MR's jacket goes, I spoke with the previous owner of the screen-used jacket, and he said MR's version is a result of them not listening to his input. He said it was definitely not leather, and was more akin to the material used on a Member's Only jacket but with a thicker lining, and the fabric felt stronger than a MO jacket. It wasn't too shiny, either, which is another mistake people make.

I don't recall the belt having a hook for a lightsaber. Those shots were just for publicity purposes.

Thanks, I've already send a PM, let's hope for the best.
That would be perfect.

I think you're right, it's more about the thickness of the jacket more than anything else. It's not leather but it should be as soft as the nylon/cotton they used for the MR's product.
I think there's a guy who did something nice awhile ago. I'll try to contact him, we never know, but I doubt I can get anything better than the MR's product before CVI.

Funny how the MR jacket's price has gone down. Maybe nobody's liking/buying them? Wink

Hard to tell. Die-hard fans might not be 100% satisfied but according to reviews, many Star Wars fans seems satisfied. They sell it for $250 instead of $275, the difference is not that huge. Maybe some resellers are now offering the rest of their stock at a discount price but that's another story.
MR is planning to release the pant this summer (too late for me), and I wouldn't be surprised if they planned a V2 of the jacket.
We'll see.

I wonder how many of those fans were Rebel Legion. Wink I saw the jacket (last year?) at some site having it for under $200, like $175, I think.

I'm just a shirt and holster away from having complete costume, and will be wearing it to Celebration.

I got my MR jacket for about $80, as a return from Amazon's closeout site. It was still sealed and complete, so I did pretty well. I saw them as low as $150 a few times, as well, but usually only the XL. I'm pleased with the jacket, but will be taking some of the stuffing out under the arms.

I'm being fitted for the shirt soon, and the belt/holster is simply a matter of finding somewhere to buy the leather I need... Am I wrong, or does Tandy's website only sell large pieces in bulk?

Ok, the Leia Blaster issue has been sorted out thanks to another member of the Rebel Legion who can cast a few replicas next week.

No news from CostumeCostume. If I don't get these bloodstripes soon I won't be able to make it on time.

Congrats! May I asked where did you find the pants, or at least the bloodstripes?
