Last call before I take this to the costume standards committee:

Lando Calrissian (Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Bespin)

Required Items:

  1. Tailored-fit shirt with long full sleeves of a medium blue matte fabric. The sleeves are gathered to narrow cuffs, with a narrow band collar and placket of a dark ink blue leather or leather-look.
  2. Tailored plain-front pocketless pants of a dark navy matte fabric.
  3. Wide belt with narrow trapezoidal sections of a black or dark ink blue leather or leather-look. The central section, or “buckle”, of the belt has an embossed Art Deco-like zig-zag pattern.
  4. Low-heeled, plain, tailored ankle or mid-calf boots in a black or dark ink blue, leather or leather-look.
  5. Full circle cape of a medium blue matte fabric, lined in a burnished gold Asian brocade in a dense “dragon” pattern, with a wide fold-over collar of a dark ink blue leather or leather-look. The cape should end below the knees.

Optional Item:

  1. Wrist communicator consisting of a thick square silver face with red, silver and black button button details attached to a plain black band. The communicator is worn with the silver face on the inside of the wrist.

Any comments or issues please post, otherwise it will go to the committee at the end of the week.

Thanks.

Greg

PS. The really observant will notice I changed the entries of "leather or pleather" to "leather or leather-look" because pleather may not be the only non-leather solution to obtaining the accurate look, and to keep things consistent with the Han standards. Just something you may want to comment on.

Is there a reason that the boots and belt can be either black or dark ink blue but the collar on the shirt and cape are only allowed in the dark ink blue? Looking back over the discussion there was debate over which color was better. But somewhere between the September 19, 2012 post and the very next one on October 26, 2012 the option for both was removed for the collar with no discussion, it was just gone. Is this a typo and should the black option still be allowed?

Kribe, do you have any different photos without the bright lighting? It's hard to discern the colors/textures. The fit of the shirt looks really good. Without the legs/body reference it's difficult to tell if the cape is long enough or it the shirt is just really long and will be tucked in. In the reference photos the cape comes down to below Lando's knees.

The inside cover of the new book "Star Wars Costumes The Original Trilogy" is a scan print of the Lando Cape lining fabric.

I have looked at so many photos of this cape I am dizzy, I have zoomed on the br and no matter how big.. I see no dragons . I see a dark gold/copper mottled image. The fabric thrown over the shoulder in the first image from Padawan's guide is not the fabric in the cloak but more of a suggestion, Does someone have a clear image of the cape lining that shows dragons? While dragons may be in the lining, they may not and to write the standards specifying them seems inaccurate without clear visual reference from ESB.

When you increase the size of the lining photos there appears to be green shapes that could be interpreted as dragons but it is not sharp enough in any official pictures to confirm that they are,. at least none I have found.

this is a blowup of the first pic posted and while colors are similar, it is def different,

@ kribe: thanks alot. Your Lando looks awesome also!!

@ Furiafelina: that fabric was also for me the most difficult part. Until I read in the same book that they reversed the fabric... the put the backside up-front. Next I had the chance to talk to a professional movie prop master and showed him the different Cape photos I found. He said there were at least 2 different capes used in ESB (or they worked on the same cape depending on the shot or angle).
