Invite from Empire City Garrison

The Rebellegion has been invited to this event by Gerrit Overeem from ECG. Thanks to him for this invite. It looks like a really fun event and they are requesting Jedi for this event. We have a large number of Jedi I will try to make this event but please post in who is available so I can get back to Gerrit with who is available so it can be posted on the ECG boards.

The 501st Legion has been asked to attend the Town of Goshen NY Great American Weekend Sat and Sun July 5th and 6th from 10 AM to 5 PM each day. This yearly two day public event is put on by the Goshen Chamber of Commerce.

Here is the background from the event page:

“Bring the family, your friends and everyone you know to experience Goshen’s true spirit of community, friendship and fun at the 31st Annual Great American Weekend. Since the first patriotic celebration back in 1982, begun to help promote harness racing at the Historic Track, today the races are still an integral part of the activities. Great American Weekend continues to be more than just a weekend. It’s a tradition that emphasizes why Goshen is proud to be a Great American Community!

Ted Spiegel described the goings-on in a June 2005 article in Hudson Valley Magazine: “Goshen is not only the Orange County seat, it’s also the site of the Great American Weekend, arguably the Hudson Valley’s liveliest Fourth of July celebration. Twenty thousand people a day will stroll through the nine-acre village green that surrounds the First Presbyterian Church, inspecting the offerings at 150 craft booths, grazing their way through a culinary snackopedia, and clapping approval for …local entertainers.”

The Great American Weekend may only occur on one weekend out of the year, but it takes months of planning. The success of our event would not be possible without the partnership of the Village and Town of Goshen, First Presbyterian Church, downtown merchants, the vendors, volunteers, performers and all of the people who decide on Goshen as their destination for the weekend. We also owe a debt of gratitude to our Great American Weekend committee who spend many hours making everything come together seamlessly.”

Event details:
Event: Goshen Great American Weekend
Date: 07/05/2014 and 07/06/2014
Time: 10:00AM to 5:00 PM (9AM arrival 1st shift / Noon arrival 2nd shift)

Shifts: 10AM - Noon / 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM - You may choose to do one or both sifts on either days or both days. You can even go until 5 PM close, but it is outside in July I would rather people not pass out. On the bright side our setup is near the police and first aid area.
Changing Area: We will have access to a town office complex to change and store equipment.

Admission: FREE – Public Event
Food/Drink: Currently we have to provide our own, but there are a ton of food vendors. I will bring cases of water. I am still seeing if the town will provide anything.

Location: 33 Park Place, Goshen, NY 10924
Website: http://www.goshennychamber.com/wordpress/?page_id=142
Changing Area: Available – Town Office Building Across the street from setup
Approximate number of attendees: 20,000+ per day
Characters Requested: 15 to 20 characters (Should we get more the Chamber of Commerce director probably would not mind. She is a big Sci-Fi fan). 501st Star Wars Villains and a request for Jedi’s with light sabers.

Contact Day of the event: Gerrit Overeem - 201-314-6808 / Jennifer Overeem - 201-294-0283

The weekend gets at least 20,000 people per day. We will be setting up a tent and the Vinyl Death Star banner next to it. We will be collecting donations to take a picture in front of the banner with Star Wars characters. Donations will go to the Goshen Food Pantry. The setup will be on grass, with the changing area not too far across the street. If we have enough costumed characters, people are free to wander to interact with the attendees and take photos.

Since we have a tent with table, we will be able to setup flyers, cards, helmet stand, etc… This will assist with advertising the 501st in the area and maybe get some new recruits.

Parking is down the street at Goshen Government building and is a short walk (.3 miles) to the changing and event area.

The location is about 8 min from my house. I will be arriving Friday to setup the tent, tables, chairs, etc... They have security Friday and Saturday night so the tent can remain setup. I will arrive early Sat and Sun morning around 8 AM to setup the banner, flags, etc... If you are interested in helping me out that early please let me know.

Arrival and Shifts

If you plan on doing the morning shift, please arrive by 9 AM.

If you plan on doing the afternoon shift, please arrive by Noon. It is a huge family fun event. So if you want to arrive earlier then noon, it is worth it to enjoy the event.

Handlers will be important for manning the table and keeping an eye on the costumed troopers. I will be a handler in the early hours and dressing up in the afternoon shift.

Each day ends at 5 PM. Everyone is welcome to come over my house and jump into the pool to cool off.
