I personally troop with a modified Hasbro blaster. Below is the list of mods I did to make it approvable:

Remove any and all branding information (Star Wars Logo, etc),
Remove the dart clip on the right? side.
Replace the pull ring with a more screen accurate d-ring harness clip that I picked up at walmart for two bucks.
Painted it as per the screen shots.

When I get home, I can snap some shots of mine to highlight the changes.

On the other hand, if I recall correctly, you don't *have* to have the blaster and holster. You can be approved with either a "force pike" staff, or an ANH rank tab.

As a side note, once you're approved, you can also do like quite a few of us do and troop with a BFG, like mine

I also have both a full sized DH-17 and two modified Hasbro blasters...
I love the Hasbro blasters because they are indestructable and lightweigh..

for one of the blasters...I pulled out the ring...cut way down the shaft that the ring attaches to...let the shaft go all the way into the blaster and covered the end with a plate that has an d-ring on it...
I use that blaster for more "serious" events...

the other is just too much fun...
I just left the ring on...painted it black...and the shaft black...
and shoot darts at the Stormtroopers ....
those darts stick real nice to plastic...

Razz

Yes...that is a deal breaker..
there should be no "V" at the top...

and..
cowbow boots usually have a pointed toe...boots must be round toe...

also...
some cowbow boots have a funky heel...

Hi folks. I'm also new to costuming and working on starting up with an RFT costume, aiming to meet RL standards. For making my shirt I'm contemplating either this Dutch shirt or this German one, but I wanted to get some feedback from seasoned Rebels on whether the colors of either look acceptable. I'm not too worried about the epaulets on the Dutch shirt as I figure they'll be obscured by the vest and if they aren't they should be easy enough to remove. I know there are some others from Sportsman's Guide that have been recommended through the tutorials, but they seem to be either sold out or no longer available in my size (medium) as of this date. Thoughts and feedback appreciated.

As you noted...those pieces on the shoulder will be obscured by the vest...so either should work....

the German ones would be better because you get 5 shirts...
and you will need 2 shirts..

one of the two shirts is cut up to make the bibb...

It is always hard to tell color from photos etc...
but..
it looks good...
some of the shirts I see in costumes I judge are a little too blue...but these shirts appear to be a pretty light blue...

the original shirts in the movie were kind of a grayish-ey blue...
so staying lighter is always better...

Here is a photo of one of the original shirts from the movie...
it was up for auction years ago...
again..
photos can skew colors...

True enough. This Italian MP shirt looks about perfect for the color, but the sleeves would have to be replaced in addition to making the bib. With all that I figure I'd be looking at 2-3 shirts easy which starts seeming pretty pricey.

Months later, but I'm so close I can almost taste it. Ordered my boots yesterday, and am almost done with my hasbro dh-17 blaster conversion, and then I'll hopefully be able to submit it to be considered for membership.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product. And don't forget to join RAID, once you are approved.
