We also will be signing children up for our Summer Reading Program, which encourages kids to keep reading during the summer to prevent summer learning loss. Many of the children in this neighborhood are reading below grade level.

I can tentatively do this. Just gotta make sure I don't have any familial conflicts that day.

Josh, which Metro stop do you think is the best one for this?

Congress Heights Metro is the closest, and then a short hop on the W4, which will drop folks off practically at the door.

Josh, can you put that in suburbinite speak? Most of us going have never even ridden a bus in the city. And not to sound like an idiot, what do we need, do we pay on the bus or use our metro pass? Help!

Sure. We'll need to take the D.C. Metro subway Green Line towards Branch Avenue, get off at Congress Heights and take bus route W4 towards Deanwood. The buses announce the stops automatically, our stop will be Alabama Avenue and 37th Street. For those taking public transportation, if you go this way, you will want to arrive at Congress Heights Metro no later than 10:00 AM. This bus will drop you off at around 10:40 AM, barring delays/traffic. The ideal bus to catch leaves the station at 9:48 AM, with an on-site arrival time at around 10:10 AM.

As far as paying the fare goes, you can pay with your Metro SmarTrip card, it costs 1.50 one-way, with a two hour transfer. For cash fares, it will cost 1.75 one-way, no transfer. Also for cash, it is exact change only. You will need enough funds to cover both trips. As for the subway, you need to either have a SmarTrip card or a paper fare card. Both can be purchased at any metro station.

For the return trip, the bus needed is the W4 in the direction of Anacostia Metro. Buses run every half hour starting at 12:04 PM.

I think this covers most of the important stuff, but feel free to ask questions if you have them.

Sorry to do this the day of, but I have no power in my neighborhood and it sounds like the aboveground section of metro might not either. At ths point, I'm going to have to back out.

Side note: it looks like the event location has no power either. Sad

I understand. Thanks for the heads up, I'll give them a call when they're supposed to open.
