Alright, here is my long overdue build thread for my new and improved Chewie build.

My body suit is mostly finished. Still some more hair tying to do (and of course lots of trimming and grooming). My new gloves are mostly done (just need to add finger nails) and my new feet are about half done.

I've got all the parts for my new bandolier as well, but that will come later.

I sculpted a new mask a few years back but decided to give it another go given that the second mask I made was having fit issues due to sculpting it on a bad lifecast.

So this is the progress on my new mask (about a weeks worth of sculpting about an hour or two a night).

I have yet to smooth or texture the sculpt (gotta get the shape/anatomy right first). I'm looking for feedback, especially on the nose, which every Wookiee knows is the toughest part of sculpting Chewie since it looks different in every photo! I think I've rebuilt the nose 3 or 4 times already.

I'm also concerned with the height of the forehead. There aren't any decent references of the unfinished mask with the forehead (the foam latex skins ended at the upper brow). I don't want Chewie to end up a cone head nor do I want his head to be too short.

Your sculpt reminds me very much of the original Sanborn sculpt... really cool Matt!

I think you mean Freeborn, and thanks.

When are you going to post the pics of the new mask you built?

Freeborn... thats right! Thats what I get trying to use my memory.

I had to start over with my new mask build. Sad

For some reason I always forget where to best place the hinge. I placed it too far forward which caused a binding effect with my jaw. In order for the jaw to work I have to make sure the hinge is furth behind my jaw to prevent the bind. Normally I would have just made another casting, but one of our members accidently broke my mother mold at one of our events. So I was left with nothing to do but to make another sculpt.

So techinically I am on vs 3.0 Smile

My sculpt is done, just been so busy with other things have not had much time to cast it yet. Not sure if I am going to do a Photo breakdown of this build... so many wookiee builds as it is.

Bob

When I get to that part I will definitely post pics. I'm actually running two video cameras during my build. Eventually I'll cut that footage into a series of video tutorials.

After some more tweaking, smoothing, and texturing, I have finished my sculpt and am now in the process of making a four-part fiberglass mold. Here are photos of the finished sculpt:

That is a fantastic sculpt (looks just like mine Razz ) The proportions look pretty much spot on and the pics should really help future builders get a good result with this tricky part of the build. Great work Matt, two hairy thumbs up Very Happy
