I highly recommend this......

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/2-used-us-navy-chambray-shirts-lt-blue.aspx?a=44575

You will need 2, one for the shirt and the other one for the bib.

You can also look for blue oxford button-down shirts.

The color on the one you linked seems very bright. These are much more muted.

Here's the direct link to the Bonhams web page:

http://www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/15337/lot/358/

Given that this was photographed professionally for an auction catalog, I would trust this picture to be an accurate representation of the shirt.

thanks for the replies.
how about this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dickies-575-Gulf-Blue-Long-Sleeve-Work-Shirt-4XL-T-NWT-/350390283669?pt=US_CSA_MC_Shirts&hash=item5194e36d95

it seems to be a closer color match to the original and it's available in his size.

The shirts you are linking are all very solid single color blue. The chambray fabric is a blend of two threads with two shades of blue. Look closely at the fabric in the above examples, you can see what I mean.

The surplus navy shirts worked for me, but I also saw shirts that would be very close in color at Sears and JCPenny sold as "work shirts". You may want to check it out.

Here's a closeup of the Chambray weave:

Here's a picture zoomed out a bit, but in darker lighting.

You seem to have a good eye on the color now just look at the fabric and you should find something out there that will fit.

Or...
you could look at the top of the page where it says

Rebel Fleet Trooper-what you need to know...

there are a couple links there for chambray shirts...

like this:

or this

i checked those a few weeks ago when i started planning this, guess i overlooked the second link. the first one is too small for him, but the second should work for me(i wear a 3x) but i doubt it will work for my brother.....he needs a 4XL shirt. but with modifications needed to pass RL standards it may work. i'll place an order next month and there is a local seamstress who can help me with the sewing.

thank you everyone for your input

Well...if you find shirts that are too blue...
you can also tone down the shirts by using Rit Color Remover...

I tried that on a bunch of too blue shirts years ago and it worked pretty darn good..

also..
remember to avoid any shirts with button down collars....
I was so intent one time trying to find the right blue that I almost goofed and bought button down collars...

Rule of Thumb #1 - If in doubt, go check the movie! Very Happy

From the Charter:

Article II: Costume Standards
Paragraph 1: To capture the magic of these characters, our goal will always be the accurate presentation and portrayal of these costumes.

Given that the RFT costumes were made over 35 years ago, from a mixture of WW2 surplus items (which are now 70 years old) and items that were custom-made for the the film, we have to allow some leeway and close subistutions.

I'm not happy with how bright my own shirt is. I'm going to do some dye tests on the scraps I have left over from the conversion and try to get a closer match.

In the end, Do you look like these guys?

My shirt is a VanHeusen dress shirt, color "Iced Grey". Looks just about right to me, and got it at Ross for not too much. Should be able to find them online too.
