Brainstorming Preperations are underway in creating my new costume, CrazyEwok. I have a few unique concepts for the structure for the mask, and if that works well as I anticipate, I will be redoing my Jawa's mask. It'll be light wieght, and off the face and the best part, have fans in it!! woot woot! lol.
But before I get ahead of myself, I have a question for ewok basics, dun dun DUN.....the fur... Guidlines just talk about the coloring, but does it have to be teddy bear fur or any type of fur and does it have to be short of long? The still frames from Return of the Jedi and TVshow (ewok adventures) show a variety of critters. Looking for some feed back... highfive

My husband and I will be casting ewok noses, lips (with teeth) and ears. My above posting went unanswered about the fur. Guide lines are very bleak and I just wanted to tips or feedback.

Any particular standard size the nose, lips nad ears should be? highfive
Any information would help.

I'd guess the fur is really up to the individual. If casting a face character you'd certainly pay more attention to it and try to 'look like the picture' when it comes down to it.

I first found a bit of fur at JoAnns, and after thinkging it was the bomb, subsequent trips yeilded no more! Ugh! So I ended up going with cubby bear nutmeg from CRCrafts. My wife is 5' on a good day, and I ordered 3 1/2 yards to be safe. I had lots of left over. Here's the link.

http://www.crscraft.com/products/product.asp?pid=91057&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x

As for the face and such, well, as long as it's proportional it should be fine. It's kind of nice with the Ewok because you can open or close the leather hood more to compensate should something come out a little too small or big. The cool thing about Sculpey - it's cheap and you can re-cast easily. What did you use for the jawa mask?

I think ewoks are like hamsters, lol. all sorts of colors and fur and features. lol.

I used a hockey mask for my jawa. I have been studying and came up with a concept. you know the inside of a hard hat, the plastic and form structure? I was going to take that and build off the front and sides with sculpture wire, it's light but sturdy. It would be a couple inches off the face and would provide plenty of room for a fan or two. I am going to remake my jawa mask to this, because without a fan, I am going to die in star wars weekends.

I am looking into building an Ewok as well for myself. I am curious as to what you do for the mask.

I love your idea of putting fans in the mask! Can you PM me with info on how you did it with your Jawa mask? I also have a jawa costume, and I was dying at the Boston St. Pats parade last month. It get so hot in there!

A great place to get fur is Mendel's Fab Fabrics in San Francisco CA. They have a website, will send swatches and they do ship. I ordered 5yds of fur and got the 5th yard free.

They have really good quality product!

Building foam on a fencing mask works great and you can breath too. Air circulates around your head so it's more comfortable than a lot of mask foundations.

We made 6 ewoks at once and all had to choose a different fur. My fur was espresso brown with swirls (i am a short hair ewok).

I recommend the fans -- highly recommend the handy cooler too depending on your location.

We also made a device out of large ice pack sheets and velcro and shoo goo that gives us cooling on chest and back during hot times or events such as SWW in Florida.

I ordered a fan and also bought the personal body cooler that Brookstone has out. There are also pockets in the suit for cool packs.
