That thing is horribly inaccurate and just looks far too wrong. I don't think that seller even looked at the movie at all when they came up with that shape.

There needs to be a standing rule here not to buy from ebay sellers unless specifically directed to do so. There is way too much garbage being sold on there. Buyers, Do Your Homework! Learn who the trusted sources are, and what you should be looking for in the part you want. If it doesn't match up, don't waste your money.

Here are some screen grabs for comparison:

Here are pics of the Endor donut that I've just started producing.

The raw pulls right off the vac-form table.

I'll be posting pics of a trimmed and finished/painted helmet after I get my hands on the soft cap helmet. (within the next few days)

Nothing wrong with finding out who the seller is, (I don't know) but posting a link like that without a note about the item's quality (or lack there of) could confuse buyers/prospective members who are looking for this costume piece.

Here's a question about the soft cap and how it fits with the Donut hard helmet. (referring to the top cutout.)

Is there any padding inside the soft cap (under the ribbed panel) that makes the soft cap stick up taller than a person's head would?

In the screen cap posted above with Luke and Leia, It seems like Luke's head looks way too tall, and there is no way it could actually fill up that soft cap without something extra in there.

No, there is no padding...

I made mine stick up like it does by adding a strip of flexible plastic in the "hem" on both sides of the pleated/ribbed piece...

My pleated piece is detachable and is secured to the ANH15 by velcro strip on each end.

I do really LOVE your donuts!

I haven't worked with mine yet since I already have one...but I do want to maybe build cut and finish it before C6.....
so many projects...
so little time...

seriously folks...
if you plan to do this costume at any time down the road..
pick up one of these donuts while you can..
and..
if you already have a donut...consider an extra...
after much abuse over the years by me
...and several "road trips" via the mail to lend to people for informal events in other states...
my current donut developed a crack so that is why I decided to buy an extra while I could get one...

Thanks Phyllis.
Hopefully I will be able to offer these for as long as they are needed.
If anything changes in that regard, I will try to make sure that the molds go to the guy I'm sharing the vac table with so that he can still offer kits.
(He has no desire to assemble anything.)

The build part is already done for you, you just need to cut it to fit and finish it.
Hope to see you at CVI!. I'll be bringing this one and a few other pieces for display.

How are folks attaching the ribbed cap to the donut?

Well...
you don't really...

you attach the ribbed piece to the AN-H-15....
then the donut just fits over it...

the question usually is where/how do you attach the cap bill...
and that usually depends on what you start out with...

some have the bill attached to the donut..
and some have the bill attached to the AN-H

Exactly that. I hot glued the bill of my cap to the donut. The ribbed part is lightly tacked onto the soft cap.

Here are some WIP shots for DW's kit I'm finishing up:

Figure out what needs to be cut for your head to fit, and cut it smaller than that. You can easily cut some out, not so easy to put back in.

Join the halves together.

The handyman's other secret weapon. Fill, dry, sand, repeat until smooth.

Prime, sand, fill, sand, repeat until satisfied.

I'm using the Rustoleum Professional Aluminium for a base coat. I can mask off the "battle damaged" areas with rock salt, mustard (yes!), and paint over. When you wash off the "mask" the "bare metal" will show through.

Finished up today:

Fouind a gray that to me was a close match to the appearance on ROTJ. I originlally used some of the Hunter Green I had as it does match close up shots of the donuts in ROTJ. However, in "real life" as opposed to "reel life" it was wayyyy to bright (in my opinion) so I repainted with the Moss Green.

Once dry, I ran it under hot water and used a soft scrub pad (Teflon safe soft) and removed the mustard masking to expose the aluminum base coat.

This technique works well for duplicating the flaked paint on WW2 Japanese aircraft that have been out in the Pacific weather and sun too long.

I think this kit captures the shape of the costume item extremely well, is more durable than my cast resin version, and was easily cut to fit my head to get the "over the ears" screen look.
