I put together a costume based on the Dave Dorman cover art from the Dark Empire series. I think it came together rather nicely. Unfortunately, it's not approvable, but should be cool to wear at cons and things like CVI!!!

What do you think????

Why isn't it approvable? Not enough resources?

Fallen to the Dark Side, he has.

But I really like the reproduction, Chris! Very cool, I can see you on a cover with the Empire behind you... nice work!

That's my understanding, yes.
There are 3 different pieces, but none of the Dorman works show the back of the cape so nobody knows for sure what it looks like. Rolling Eyes

is that a rubies vader suit? here's a great mod: perforate the entire backside of the costume with ~100 black shoelace grommets Wink it will be hidden under the cape so nobody will see them. it allows much-needed_AIR to circulate. Wink

(I couldn't wear the rubies suit for more than 20 minutes without soaking myself in sweat -- now it's QUITE drafty back there, to say the least. hehe) Wink

It's actually 2/3 of the leather suit from my 501st approved Vader costume. I got rid of most of it, but kept the parts I would need for this. I was fortunate to have a 3 piece suit (pants, cotton shirt with leather sleeves, and leather vest). I just don't wear the leather vest part and it's not bad at all.

Well, there's an easy (I know, RL hates "easy" ) solution to this:

http://www.davedorman.com/

There's a "Click here to email Dave directly" link (top of the page, 1st link down)

Somebody (LMO or Lumpy with LMO's approval?) contact him, show him a few of Lumpy's pictures and get HIS endorsement to approve the costume.

I don't believe in the no-win scenario! Wink

I'm just saying, if a dude can write Karen Traviss to get their Kal Skirata armor 501st approvable... why not?

Nicely done!

I do confess, however, that I'm curious as to how long you'll be able to go before some asks you if you're Vader... Razz

Considering the number of costumers who DO get asked if they're Vader, probably not long. Wink
