we should take a page from Bob's book: he created a resource library for Han Solo costumes: photo references, tutorials, vendor lists, etc.

I always said, he could have easily hosted this material 'off-site' and created a "son of the suns" type of site, for Han Solo costumes. Wink

BUT the goal was to host it all here in the RL and call it "docking bay 94" -- this was the purpose of creating the Docking Bay 94 detachment:
to provide all the references and tutorials you need to make the costume(s).

like an RL version of son of the suns Wink

---> maybe dragonstar can organise something similar for the Jedi detachment. a collection of threads/tutorials/references for the various face characters like anakin and obiwan, and host them all within the 'Knights of the jedi' detachment.

thats really what detachments are all about Wink getting the more experienced costumers together in one place to impart their wisdom and share tutorials about specific costumes-types (jedi, fringe, etc).

with sites like 'suns', and crazy old wizards, this was never realy 'needed' for the jedi detachment, to the extent that it was needed for Han Solo. Bob's work really filled a vaccuum, when it comes to han solo.

now that 'suns' is gone, there seems to be a vaccuum left in its wake Wink I'm not sure this One Thread will fill it Smile hehe

I agree, it would good to have that repository of information here.

Well, SOTS is not "gone", according to Justin on the first page of this thread. It just needs a fix.

That being said, and all hoping recovery fixes happen, I think it would be a good idea to give those who want to do this costume (we've had a few applicants) a source for information in the meanwhile. Redundant as it may be (and short of creating an Anakin wiki), perhaps we can post information on the parts of the costume here, images, etc.?

Right, that's why I started this thread. Everyone did such hard work including you Matt getting the right info out there, and I don't want it lost. With ROTS in 3-D in 2014 we may see more applicants.

Forgive my absence, I got such a terrible reaction from the locals dressing as Anakin it burnt me out of costuming for months.

If nothing else, we have a few good models for the costume here (*cough* Matt *cough*) that could put the 'whole image' up. Everyone can add their knowledge of the individual pieces and creation and we can get a resource going.

That's what I call 'the stuff'.

Let's see if we can post them up here along with information - everything from where to get it, specifics about color, grain direction, etc. There have been a few Anakin costumes coming through the queue; it would be great to go 'see this thread' for details on this costume.

As far as what to include in the costume, the 501st standards are basically the same as RL's, minus the eye contacts:

Although I'm very fond of SoTS I don't see why the RL should rely on it as a source for Anakin costume references. Confused (Especially when it's offline for extended periods of time.)
We should be able to provide every bit as much costume information and help.

So I tried to pull together a copy of the standard along with images culled from the albums of the responders here where appropriate. I'd encourage anyone to take an item and go into detail about it - for example, take pictures of the boots from every angle and post them up with details you think appropriate - so any new costumer would have a great reference to know if they had the proper material when applying with this costume. There's been a lot of time and effort spent to create these very exacting standards, so here's the chance to share them.

here's a better shot of that same detail, looking in from the side of the shoulder: shoulder tucks, cloth tabbard, leather tabbard.

If anyone's interested, I have a few swatches of the screen-used fabric for the inner tunic (which I used on mine), it was even bought at the same store Trisha Biggar bought it.

I'm not sure its still available, but you can maybe use it to compare to something you may find that's close to it.

I am in 110% agreement with that statement and hopefully we'll be able to get it squared away.

Not trying to derail the tread but the RL needs to drill down in the forums and have sub forums for specific costumes for Example:

Main forum: Jedi
Subforums: Anakin, Obi Wan, Luke, etc.
Subforum for subforum: Ep1, Ep2, Ep3, Ep4, etc.

One problem with that is that you could potentially create an entire website worth of detail for one costume like SOTS.

So what is the correct way to go about it then? I got almost no information from the RL for my Anakin. Almost all of it was on SOTS.

I suggested having the forums require a sticky thread at the top of each category, like on the TF.N Costuming Forum, where people would check FIRST before starting a thread on something a thread on a topic already posted previously, thus preventing multiple threads and confusion:

Here's the links to the ROTS Anakin links there:

As honored as I am that two of my photos ended up in here, I like your detail shot a lot better than mine. I am in the process of redoing my tunics however! Hope to share soon.
