from looking through the approved photos of Y wing pilots, and from what I can see there is no tutorial on this (unless its hidden and I cannot view it), there does not appear to be a consistent manner in which the Y wing ROTJ version belly tube is made. Some look like pipes, some look like super soaker bladders.

I have the CRL printed and highlighted, but is there a "correct" or even "preferred" method to make the tube?

My second question is about the shade of grey for the suit.

I would like to use Dickies coveralls and I have converted several pairs of coveralls in the past. Would this shade of grey be acceptable?

Are you planning on making a Y-wing costume?

'Shade of gray flightsuit': Bwahahahahaha Wink Razz
Here some though about the 'gray area of gray shade'
Shades, and data, about the Y-wing costumes are few and npot too clear, unfoertunately - I have myself a Y-wing costume WIP. That doesn't progress too much, to be honest.

About the pipe, it's just slighly better: there is, hidden somewhere, some photos of an exibit in the 80s or 90s with an A-wing pilot.
A-wing flak jacket were quite similar in style to Y-wing.
The belly tube looked like a fireman hose, not a plastic/rubber pipe but some sort of fabric: soft and pliable.

If you browser the costumes, the few Y-wing pilots we have in roster had soft hoses, light/silver gray flightsuit and tan/taupe flak vests (while both gray and tan are acceprable in standards).

A medium to light gray for the coveralls should work fine. Judging by the references, their coveralls were on the lighter side...

As for the chestbox, I don't think anyone can really tell, to be completely honest. The container of the chestbox is one of those areas in screen shots that are usually too blurry to really see anything. It's some kind of rounded container, but whether it's soft or hard... who knows? It looks solid to me, but I can't swear to that.
One of my favorite Y-wing pilot chestboxes was made buy a guy here in the RL named Rob Howes. I can't say for certain that his chestbox tube container thingy is completely accurate, but I think it looks pretty good nonetheless.
Sgt Venom also did a pretty nice one, if a little on the big side.

Yeah, that suit you posted looks a little dark. Look at these pics of current RL pilots (some of which were submitted before current standards) to get a better idea of color.

As you can see there's a bit of personal interpretation on this costume since our source material is so spotty.

Thanks for the input!

its looks like the costumes here are running on the silvergrey side like the CB and CPS costumes. I just got a CSP Imp crewman and I love it, so instead of the Dickies it looks like Ill be heading that way. the fligthsuit will likely be the last thing I do since its a custom order item and shipping is quick.
I have an idea on the hose, and Im going to pore through the BlueRay and see if I can glean anything from it.

Currently I am no where on it. Darth Real life kicked in and we are doing the total money makeover program.

Im doing what i can, as I can, but focusing on a much less intense costume at this point. Since it will be months before I can purchase the suit, if I can scrape together some cash to work on the flak vest, ill start that.

what colors are you going to go with?

Also...I can probably make the gaiters/spats....
did a pair of similar ones for myself for my Rebel Vanguard and
Endor gunner...
though the Pilot ones will need to be shorter....

What diameter would you guess the belly tube to be?

2 1/2" od?
