before you go further...
I would go with an Olive Drab or Khaki tan belt...
I don't think they were gray...

it is for now....
but...
that is one of the proposed changes to the standard that I am making...
the belt is hardly addressed at all as far as the "mini flare holders"...the width of the belt...the buckle....etc.

Some of these standards are years old....the last time that the Tech standard was looked at was 2009 and the change might NOT have been with regard to the belt....discussions have ensued since that time.

I am really not sure where the gray came from...
maybe becase the belts were similar in construction to the X-wing pilot belts...

in the screen captures and photos that I personally have seen...
the belts appear either light khaki tan...
or olive drab...

I offer the following..
note the belts on the Pilots vs the Techs:

Note these photos which we have all looked at many times:

My wife is not very tall. We picked up a FAC flightsuit, sized to fit her body, but is long in the torso, and therefore the legs. Both flap-pockets plus the half-moon top pocket just don't all fit.

- Can I shorten the torso by omitting the waist half-moon pockets? Making the alteration here helps everything else fit. (Loosing the bottom flap-pocket and heming the cuffs up does not correct the rise fit issue.)

I could also shorten the torso if I lost (or comsumed the bottom of) the chest half-moon pockets.

Can someone advise? Thank you for your time and attention.

You might have to re-scale all of the pockets...
I ended up having to do that with my Pilot flightsuit...I had to shorten it so much (the crotch was at the proximity of my knees) that I ended up having to remove pockets...and make them all smaller...

but you need those half moon pockets....

So smaller is alright, you just still need them. Cool I can do that.

With the release of the book "Costumes of the Original Trilogy"....
much of this information will need to be revisited...

Most of the changes should have to do with the color of the coveralls and perhaps a further clarification on the belt. Perhaps a color change for the helmet as well. Mine is painted Dover white, which is a dirty white.

We have had a recent surge in interest in Yavin Technicians, which we are grateful for. Its a wonderful, easy to wear, and often overlooked costume that ranks low on the buck-o-meter (in the US anyways...insert your own currency to replace buck).

Here are some images to refer to in addition to those at the beginning of the post.

I have really played with the color of these, making them lighter and easier to see in Photobucket.

lol....all I see is shades of gray...

and...

Current standard:

REQUIRED ITEMS

1. Accurate tech helmet (RFT helmet with no swoop on back and either light or dark comm box) should add that it can be white or light gray.

2. Light tan, beige, or light gray coverall with mandarin-style collar and pointed tab, rectangular pocket with a flap closure on upper right arm, and thigh and knee pockets. No visible zippers or snaps. should add that this is the same flightsuit as the Pilots wear and pockets should be the same. Also, it should state that it is mandatory to have the 4 leg pockets and that pants can be cuffed or un-cuffed.

3. Dark tan or dark grey belt - should read dark khaki, khaki green, British Khaki (different than American Khaki) Olive, Olive drab or dark tan with a roll pin buckle.

4. Black boots or black shoes - should probably add round toe and smooth finish??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OPTIONAL ITEM - I think that the mini-flare loops should be mandatory..the loops can be empty..

1. Mini-flares in belt

Is it the same roll-pin buckle as the Pilots?

From all the photos i have looked at, stopping the dvd on my bigscreen, etc, im convinced it is. In 1 scene you can see a bright colored vertical tab at the side of the buckle. Im convinced this is the "lift tab" that has a small strap sewed to it for cargo buckle use. Ive seen these on Ebay with the strap still attached.

I agree with most of these clarifications, but I think more research on the buckle is needed. What kind of belt is it, was it surplus which I believe it is, that should help identify the buckle. I believe the mini flares should remain optional as to me not all the tech belts have them or even have empty holders.
