Thanks for the timely tip .
I'm going to Kenosha today to see if Chesters Electronics might have what I am looking for.

I am in contact with a local seamstress to get a pattern drafted for the flak vest...

If it does not materialize from her in a month or so..

I will have to begin to draft the pattern myself...

Making a pattern is usually more time consuming (for me) than actually making a piece...
I sometimes go through 3 or 4 prototypes and re-makes on things when I am trying to establish a pattern...

so ...
if I can get a "professional" to draft the pattern...
life would be much easier..

I'm making all this progress on my helmet but still need to get on the stick about ordering a flightsuit.
Costumebase is OK but those short zippers are like jumping through a flaming hoop.
Red Kap makes these coveralls in grey.

http://www.automotiveworkwear.com/RedKap/CC18/coveralls.html

That's the way I went for my TI.
Very durable and nice brass zippers that go up and down from the top and bottom. (Good for a pit stop on those long troops) Putting two together to make one official flight suit is good.
Both of these alternatives require mods as neither is available in "Get shorty" size.
Will the grey ones from Red Kap be OK? I worry about the shade of grey.
Of course it's just going to fade as it matures anyhow. Am I worrying too much?

I'd say the gray looks just fine, though it is hard to tell from their crappy color swatch. As long as you get a gray that's medium or light I think you should be just fine.

I need to order a pair of red coveralls from them myself (because I think that their red might be a better red for a B-wing pilot than what I have currently), but I'm waiting until I lose some more weight. No use in replacing the coveralls I have now if I would only have to do it again later.

But as far as I know, CostumeBase doesn't make any coveralls for Y-wing pilots, and their X-wing is not only the wrong color but the collar and number of pockets are wrong, too.
Well, unless you were doing an ANH Y-wing pilot, but then you wouldn't need a RotJ Y-wing pilot helmet. Razz

I trimmed the lens opening of the helmet and got it as even as I could.

I added a big dollop of Fix it to the area above the brow. Put some wax paper on the lens and pressed it into place to establish a land into which I drilled and tapped a 10/24 hole. The lens is a bit warped so I will still need to pin down the right side of it to get it to lay in there where I want it.

I cut the hole into the top for the electrical connector. Mounted the connector onto a separate piece of plastic. I can glue it in just before paint.

Finished sanding off the latest incarnation of bondo tonight. I haven't taken any pics of it yet but I'm fitting the mic mount greeblie to the helmet now.

These are the resin parts supplied with the bucket plus the connector I bought from Chesters Electronics last week. The star looking piece must be for the round ear piece on the port side of the helmet. Totally inaccurate and won't be used. I wish I could come up with the Yamaha part that was used on the original. I might have to cheat something together to imitate it.

I smoothed it out and hit it with primer for a display at the Discovery World museum event we had last month.
Since then I have hit the pinholes with some spot putty. I still need to sand that off and lay on some more primer.
I've been sick with this upper respiratory broncitis thing for three weeks now. Antibiotics helped some but this little tickle is still driving me nuts. I gotta get my act together.

Very nice. It looks like the helmet is really coming together.

Well....I had decided to move forward on the flak vest...
but with Skaught's recent close encounter with the real deal..
I guess one needs to wait and see what he can sketch up.

What I did do was take the drawing done by CrimsonPhoenix to a Fed Ex location with a copier that can blow things up big time..

I printed out the drawing and blew it up 425% ...
I then figured I would trace another copy of it to cut apart to make pattern pieces...

obviously....with Skaught actually seeing one of these..
this could all be wrong..

Thanks, yep it might be a whole new game now.
The detail pieces that are all over the vest need to be documented somehow.
I'm calling Jerry today to see if he has anything for us.

I'm working on the insert for the indent on the port side (ear) now.
The bucket is looking good in primer now but I want to figure out a couple things before I lay paint onto the thing.
I'm going to make up the Yamaha greeblie that goes onto this piece of circuit board I hole sawed out of an old 12v. air compressor.
Have clay, will travel.
Perhaps I'll work on it tonight while watching Monday night football.
