It just occurred to me to pose an argument that Jedi tunics in light blue are not New Republic since this reference is in the pre-quel era. Ah, well.

I apologize ahead of time if this statement starts a big arguement. But blue does occur naturally and could be argued that it's an earth tone. There was some debate a while back about what earth tone means and pretty much natural color, not just brown. So...blue is water/sky colors, there is your arguement, if needed.

Except that the standards are very specific:

1. Earth tones meaning browns or any shade of brown outer tunic
From the Generic OR jedi standards.

But the tabards and belt says only earth tones, so I guess there is more room there.

I know. However, standards can always be revised and have been at least a couple times. I never took that opinion further because most of the on screen Jedi are in earth tones, mostly browns.

I have to say, I hope they are at least somewhat loose with the color requirements. My costume is all in browns and earth tones, but the outer tunic/tabbards/obi are a very warm shade of gray, much warmer than, say, Zett Jukassa, whose on-screen outfit is actually done with cool grays. I'm just about ready to turn in my costume application, but it's meant to be entirely Old Republic, so I hope they accept it as that. I just don't know how strict they are.

Hi all.
I was at coscon in Oslo, 01.10, and I used my OR outfit.
Here is 2 pictures of it.
The only thing missing is the boots and some small parts.

What you people think?

I like the overall colour mix/ image of your costume, especially the tunic colour is "new" to me....

Your robe seems to be made of cotton, I just guess because of the crinkles it has. So I suggest to iron the robe before trooping...it just looks better if the robe "falls" without crinkles...

That's a lot of fabric to iron... here's a costumer's trick: if you have a dryer, put the robe in with a damp (nearly wet) towel. Dry them together on low.

Costume looks good. I don't see an undertunic. You'll need to have something, if only a partial one.

I LOVE the color scheme - it stands out while still working as a generic set of colors that fits a background Jedi! It will definitely be better once you have boots and get the undertunic to show better. Then get that cloak ironed and it'll all come together! Smile

It actually took me years to find the wool I liked at a good price. Good luck on your hunt!

Hi all Smile

Been some time since last time now.
Have not put in any application yet, and I guess you all can tell why.....
Yes, if you said boots, you're right.

I been in contact with an local shoo-maker school and one of the student there have agreed to make me the boots I need.
(I bet this going to cost me a LOT)

Today I found the leather I want to use for them, what you people think?

Hmm, that's a tough call. It definitely complements the tunic color, but I wonder if it would work better to match the belt instead. The tunic is such a fantastic color that I wonder if using it again for the boots would be too much of a good thing, plus it is a much brighter color than boots are wont to be. Getting the boots to match the belt would tie the outfit together nicely.

On the other hand, that is a lovely color and it should produce a distinctive boot. It's such an attractive hue that you really can't mess it up. The question is, how much is too much?

The way I see it, you have two options. One, match them to the brown belt, which would balance out the costume but may not be as distinctive, or two, go with that color, which would give you very snazzy boots but may over-use the color in the complete ensemble. I would go with a medium brown so that the rusty color can make a stronger statement, but that's just me.

Those are just a few things to consider, but ultimately, you should go with what looks best to you. And I gotta say it again, I LOVE the color and fabric of your tunic. If I ever make another Jedi costume, I may just have to purloin that hue. Smile

Well, nothing more to say....

But you may keep in mind that the colour of the boots could change dramatically after cleaning, wearing them in wet weather a.s.o....
So if you try to match your outstanding tunic colour you have to seal the boots leather very well, or it will change after a while.
Thats the reason for my black, NR, boots: The colour doesn´t change!

I was after some darker, but the store didn't have the right color at the right thickness.

I plan to use the boots for OR and NR, since I can't afford both.

You can color the leather, dependent on who is making your boot's approval, of course. I've used NuLife leather color spray to darken leather and it works really well. Don't buy one that is too dark, because a few coats of a lighter brown (I used 'saddle' for Starkiller's leather gauntlets) had a good darkening effect. I think I took some photos of before and after 2 coats of spray, I just don't have access here at work to the folder. When I get home I'll see if I can edit it and add some shots so you can see. But here's the link just in case.
