I picked up a leiasmetalbikini outfit from a 501st member, it has the boot toppers, but no boots. It has the olive green top, so I need to get olive green suede flat boots? Any one have any sources? I have searched around with no luck.

Thanks!

Julie

If you can't find a boot just look for a slipper or any shoe/boot that has the right foot shape. it is really quite easy to recover a shoe/boot and have it look good. You just need to take care with making sure all edges are trimmed and finished properly.
http://costumes.glittersweet.com/recreations/sw/slaveleia.htm

Aside from the tongue (which is hidden) no one can tell that this boot was recovered. I have some in progress photos in my Sleia thread too:
http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20331

I used a blunt knife and shoe stripper to loosen the glue about 1/4" all the way round the edge of the sole. Then used Shoe Goo (E6000 is the same stuff and apparently one of the Goop products is as well) to glue the toes and heels to the shoe base and again used the blunt knife to slide the edge of the cover into the gap between shoe and sole I loosened earlier.

If you can pin fabric to fit around your leg and foot you can make this Smile I did mine to lace up like the original, those laces around the ankles are a vita part of the boot standing upright and now slouching to the back, and to allow you to get into and out of the boot really easily Smile It is easier to make this hinge effect if you have a boot with a tongue Smile

Kay_Dee's site is excellent. I was looking for those bots like she listed, I guess that style is "out" now.

I did the recover the boots thing for my Ironette look, it turned out sorta OK. but that was spandex with E-6000, I imagine suede would be easier.

I want to do it right, thanks for the tips so far!

what size boot are you looking for?

The boots must be a dress/tailored style flat boot, no chunky or UGG boots for RL approval.

you will want to look for any olive suede boot that comes up to at least your upper calf so that you have enough room for it to stay up on the back of your leg once you cut out the boot in the front. if you want to eliminate the sagging look that some people have with their slave leia boots once they put the heavy gold boot topper on, you must reinforce the back of your boot on the inside with a very firm substance. i had found this flexible but stiff stuff at Hancock fabric that was cut to fit the back of my boots and then i purchased olive suede cloth material to cover it, on the inside of the back of the boot. You will also need to secure to boot topper down in the front/toe of the boot as well, which can be done using very sturdy thread and glue. The boot topper itself has resin prongs that you stick through your boot to help secure it. Make sure you dont bend them back and forth too many times because they will break off. Once you complete the boot, it will look awesome but may be a little bit hard to put on and take off, but the way they will look will be very worth it. Cool

They may be out on Amazon, but maybe check that style on other shoe sites, or ebay?

i wear a size 6 dress shoe, but i normally get a size 7 in a boot to allow room for socks and not to squeeze my feet. you may want a slightly bigger boot after you transform your boot into the leia boot, mine are a little hard to get on after tacking the boot topper down.
Good luck!

Darn, the seller messaged me that the boots are really more of an 8-8.5 even though they were listed as 6.5 Sad That is WAY to big for me. So I requested a refund and will continue to search Sad 7 is about the biggest I want to go.

Julie,
Good luck! I'm so glad you got the costume. I found my boots at a local beauty supply shop.

A girl here does a great Leia, but with tan boots. Can I get away with dark brown?

Was looking at these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Womens-Flats-micro-Suede-Slouch-Boots-Shoes-Knee-High-/180549356611?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D2327655598794208441#ht_6045wt_850

of course, can do the cover thing as well....
Maybe using this?
http://www.fabric.com/home-decor-fabric-suede-fabric-vintage-suede-fabric-vintage-suede-olive-1.aspx

Then of course I could redo the bra cups to be an exact fit...

Gray or olive green is the most screen accurate, but i do believe that the costume standard allows for taupe colored suede as well.

A friend of mine is putting one together right now and is going with the gray. I personally have the olive green. They may allow the dark chocolate brown color, would have to check with a leia costume judge to be sure.
