Absolutely glorious tutorial. Very inspiring for me to pick up some leathercrafting tools.
Could you list the tools you used if we're starting from scratch?
Thanks!! _________________ Dan Nickeson

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the kind words, glad you are inspired!! I could list the basic items required here, but I'd like to use the opportunity to promote my friend Havok69's thread; if you check out his thread, Havok Solo WIP, you will find an itemized list of basic supplies given at the bottom of page 8.
While there, check out the rest of his build; he has a lot of other helpful information. The list I included on his thread is not all inclusive, I have picked up a few additional items since then, but it is certainly enough to get you started. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask, either by post or PM; I'm here to help.
Good luck with your build, keep us posted on your progress.

Speaking of AWOL Solos, anyone know what ever happened to Bonded Hawk? |

Smugglers, Pirates and Scoundrels,
CaptSolo77 here. Nice to make contact again. Chewie and me got mixed up in some business of "questionable legality" a while back and wound up on a prison moon orbiting Coruscant. Not really the best of times, but it's the nature of the business.
One benefit to being a "guest of the Empire" though, it gave me some time to get caught up on some projects. So here, finally, is my finished version of the ANH blaster rig:

Han ANH Belt by bri457, on Flickr[/img]
A few key differences between this and the ESB/ROTJ rigs. First is the color. With this one, I went with a true tan as opposed to the British Tan I used on the others. Also, this one is much more "raw" in it's finish; no wax or polish or sheen at all. After I stained it, I went over the whole thing with sandpaper to scuff it up and wear it in. I repositioned the snaps in the back as well, and I'm much happier with the spacing. They are still covered somewhat by the rear buckle when the belt is laying flat, but when it's on, they look about right.
Another difference is the groove in both the holster drop strap and the belt, seen here:

Like I said before, the ESB version does not have these grroves at all, and the ROTJ only has them on the holster strap. Another thing unique to this rig is the metal disk, which is thicker, and more high profile than on the other two. Lastly, the shape of the holster itself is different. On this one, the holster breaks basically 90 degrees around the magazine portion of the blaster, and again where it meets the barrel. On the ESB/ROTJ, there is more of a sweeping curve around this portion. Also, again, the consistent, even spacing of the snaps on the thigh strap. This is the same on the ROTJ, but different on the ESB.
Here is a pic of the equipment that goes in the belt:

The DL-44 is a Denix conversion. Not entirely screeen-accurate, but, like the belt, there's a certain satisfaction to building it yourself. The little relay boxes are scratch-built from sintra. This is an absolute miracle product. I may one day do a post just on all the various things I've built with sintra. The canister is the exact same kind of canister that was used in the film; it even came with it's own natural weathering. I picked this up from Havok69, one damn good smuggler in his own right. For the droid caller, I used the Evolution Props version, which I then textured with that spray on rubber used for truckbeds. Worked pretty well.
Well, that's about it from this corner of the galaxy. Hopefully this has all been of some help to everybody. I'm gonna try to stay in better contact, and should have this thing ready for approval very soon. Untill then,
Keep your friends close, and your blaster closer.
CaptSolo77 signing out. |

Nice to hear from you all as well. Thanks for the kind words, I know each of you has researched the details of these rigs as much if not more than I have, so your words really mean a lot. You have all contributed to the success of this project in some way, so I thank you all for your inspiration, observations, and information.
I hope to be exchanging ideas again soon, and look forward to everyone's input. Until then,
May the Force be with you. |

So does anyone have actual measurements for the buckles on the belt? Can't find them online. |

I'll try and post some dimensions and pics early next week. I'll have to wait until I go back to work to be able to scan them in and post them.
Check back then. |

I'm looking for a set of buckles and such for the holster and rigging. Did your friend ever do a run of the hardware? _________________ What's the matter Col. Sanders? Chicken?! |

Hi Shane,
He does have them available. In fact, he is now a fully approved, formal member, so everything is nice and legal. You can send him a PM, his username is RFTJon. He can get you all the info you need.
Good luck with your build. _________________
