STAR WARS Chewbacca Costume Replica or Movie Prop NICE

Someone posted this to the yahoo group. At first I thought it was NFTech hair but upon closer inspection its clearly a latch hooked suit. The color is spot on and the hair looks stringy like the OT suits. It doesn't clump together the way Kanekalon hair does. Makes me wonder if it's real yak hair.

Almost looks like NFT hair, but it almost looks like it was latch hooked. Maybe someone bought all loose hair from them and made it that way?

I really thought I was one of the only 1 piece suits out there, kind of nice to know I am not the only one. However I did not use zippers, which that suit did.

You know... that might be one of Disney suits suits. I heard from NFT that there was an order for a few suits for their new Star Wars thingy. I wonder if they just replaced the old suits. Would explain why the mask is not part of the sale.

All speculation mind you... very nice suit though, I would be shocked if it wasnt NFT hair.

I would be willing to bet they used real yak hair. Many years ago I heard rumors of people who built Chewie statues using yak hair like the original.

Some of the grey areas look like they were dyed that way. You can see how some clumps change color in the middle of the strand.

Does your suit open in the back, Bob?

Years ago there was a Chewie down in Florida who used kanekalon hair extensions but used a curling iron to get the hair to look like that. His site was on Geocities for years which obviously went down with Geocities did. He was one of the first Wookiee costumers ever. I think him and Dan Hyatt both did their suits in 1999 years before anyone else did.

Yeah they also blended some brown into the shoulders... very well done actually. Which makes me think this was proffesionally done.

NFT still does yak hair as well. You can buy it by the pound... not cheap though. My suit is about 10% yak hair... even though it smells like 20% at times. Laughing

I saw that suit as well. If it makes you feel any better, Bob, I'm planning on making my suit a one-piece, too. I haven't yet decided whether to use a zipper in the back like this one or put snaps up the leg inseams yet, though. How do you get into yours?

Looking at that suit and then looking at how much work I have yet to do, it sure is tempting, through....

It will be interesting to see how much this goes for, and if it actually meets the reserve. The guy puts right in the auction how valuable it is so he might have a ridiculously high reserve. It does look pretty good though.

Well if it is NFT hair that suit is worth at least 2,500$ in material alone... not counting the effort put in to creating the suit.

I just hope people realize that this suit was meant to fit someone else, and to make it work for you will require someone who knows what they are doing behind a machine!

The suit looks well made. Like it was made for a professional prop, but the grey is a bit too light. I have seen the suits that LFL use for their promotional appearances. The detail and uniformity to each latch hook is definetley professional. Ive trooped with Lucas films Chewbacca. It looks similar to that except a bit on the light side.

Another thing to consider is that, assuming it really is NFT fur, you'd also need to buy more NFT fur for the mask and feet. If it's -not- NFT fur, then I'm not sure how you'd ever match a mask to the suit.

Good point . If you cant match a mask to the suit its not going to look right.
