I've posted about this project from time to time in the main episode I thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread.

So far I've started on the underwear. I'm going to wear a hoopskirt (bought), and I'm working on the petticoat at the moment. I'm also going to wear a set of 18thC stays under it, that will allow me to make sure that the bodice of the gown is really snug. I'm also a lot curvier than Natalie Portman, especially at 14, so I think the stays will hide my curves a bit more.

I have the fabric for the main skirt, a navy jersey brocade, since I wanted something with texture but didn't feel like smocking a whole skirt.

Now I'd love to get some advice for the velvet for the gown.

This is a test swatch that I received, one pic with flash and one withouth. I'd like to get some opinions on it.

It sort of depends on what the rest of your fabric will look like. You'll want all the fabrics to work well together. Is that silk velvet?

Yes, it's silk velvet.

When it comes to the fabric I'm going to contact the company for a custom dye job, I'm afraid that if I have doubts about the fabric now, then I'm never going to be satisfied with the end result.

Anyway I'm done with the underwear. Unfortunately the pair of stays that I made ended up being too big. Or rather they are ok now, if I close them fully in the back, but I wouldn't have minded if they were a bit tighter, and if I loose weight I will have to redo them. They are doing a fine job in flattening the silhouette though, which was the purpose since I'm naturally quite curvy, and very curvy compared to a teenage Natalie Portman.

The skirt part is an old hoop skirt that I bought years ago when I made a civil war era gown. At the time I thought it was too triangular in shape, I wanted a rounded bellshape, but for this project it's really nice. Then it's a ruffled petticoat to hide the hoops. I'm going to add another row of ruffles at the bottom, but I'm planning on doing that row in the same fabric as the skirt, so I need to finish that one first so I know if I'll have enough fabric for that.

looking forward on this one. A friend member (Teeana Skyblade) is also trying to make it, but she is at total lost. We need a design drawing or something on this dress so the seamstress get at leas an idea of what we want.

I have lots of pictures downloaded from the internet but I can't see the details to start drawing a pattern.

I'd be good if the ones who have done this dress could give us a hand.

I'm hoping to start working on the coat next week, I'm a bit behind on my planned schedule.

Very slow work going on here.

I have started the mockup of the coat. I've used this pattern as a base.

What I'm after is a flared skirt, a high neckline and a straight back seam. I'm planning on putting a zipper in the back. The pattern is quite simple, two back pieces, two side backs, two front sides and two front pieces. The shape comes from the connecting seams for the front and side pieces, and the back and side pieces and one dart on each main and back piece. I needed to cut away a lot of fabric from the lapels and of course the original is calling for shoulder pads, something I'm not interested in, so the shoulder seam needed to go from straight to curved.

This is a pic of me, the mockup isn't fitting, since I'm not wearing the stays under, I just wanted to make a quick snapshot of my progress.

That is looking really good! Have you figured out how you are going to make the long points on the coat yet?

If you look at this photo you can see that there are seams coming up diagonally towards the point of the stomacher. I'm pretty sure that the points of the coat are attached in those seams. Meaning that I need to cut off the front of my mockup, and then simply add the points.

I think I'm finished with my first mockup now. The next step will be to make a "clean" mockup, that I'll be able to use as a pattern for the final coat. I can't use this mockup since especially the sleeves and the neck part consist of too many seams and alterations. That's also why I haven't added the stand up-collar or stomacher to this mockup.

The sleeves consist of a pattern piece for a short sleeve that I found in my pattern stash, and then I added the lower, big, sleeve from McCall's 4491. That sleeve is to big though, so after that I had to simply play with the scissors until I got a size that I liked.

A thing I need to change with the next mockup is to make the back point wider, so that it covers more of the back skirt.

I'd love to get some feedback. (but ignore the fitting issues, since I'm not wearing the proper stays under the mockup).

I have the doll, she's standing behind my sewing desk, so it's great when I just want to have a quick look at the gown while working.
