The concept for “The Leia That Slayed Jabba” build came from my desire to depict the true character of Leia as a strong leader of her people and as the one who killed Jabba. I thought the best way to do this would be to mount Jabba’ severed head on Leia’s axe Very Happy . I wanted it to have blood and guts..for awesomeness of course Cool and for it to be light enough for me to carry but large enough to be recognizable.

I first contacted a well known prop builder. He offered to make the head out of Latex. There were a couple of problems with using latex 1)it would probably be too heavy for me to carry and 2) it would be many, many, many $$$$. When I told my husband how many dollars, he suddenly had an epiphany that it could be easily made out of foam. I thought about how to do it for a couple of months before I started the build.

Here are a few pictures from the build. You can see that I started with a basic foam shape using “big gap filler”. Then, I used a dremel for the facial detail. I finished with paint and paper mache. It screws on and off the axe with PVC pipe.

Looks great! How did you do the eyes? They look nice and glass-y.

Thanks!
The eyes are made from a rubber bouncy ball that I cut in half and painted. I used paper mache to make the eye lids. I think if I were to make a 2.0 version, I'd probably make the eyes a tad bigger but overall, I'm happy with how it turned out.

There are some prop builders who make monster eyes and I looked into having some made. They turn around time on those is slow so I just went for it myself.
