|
|
|
I've been thinking of trying to organize a base get together/picnic type day. A way to meet the base members that does not involve trooping. What are your thoughts? Is this something you would like to attend? If so, where should it be held? My initial thoughts were somewhere on the boarder of WI/IL such as Kenosha or Gurnee?
What do you think? |

somewhere around the border would be cool with me _________________

I would absolutely love it...
But...a few quetions...or scenarios..
If we go to someplace like RenFaire (as suggested last year) or another amusement type place...I fear that (understandably) a lot of members would probably want to go about and see the things they wanted to see and do the things that interest them...
If we gather at an outdoor venue during the summer...there is always the chance of rain and/or extreme heat to put a dampner on things...
I generally get my fill of sweating/pic nic-ing at the Bartlett Parade event...lol...
If the thrust of the gathering would be to share costuming tips, tricks, and such...
and talk about the Base...
moving forward...
trying to get more members...
Then I still go back to the idea a hotel gathering...with a "road trip" maybe on the side..
definitely something on the WI/IL border _________________

I wish we could meet in someone’s home. Because if it rains… we stay inside. If it’s nice, we could grill and sit out side. We wouldn’t need to pay for anything. And as we bring food items that need to refrigerated or cook/warmed, that could be done. And if there is space we could do costume work, ect.
For me, being so far away from everyone else, that would be worth it. Just driving over for a picnic… not so much. _________________

No reason we cannot set up a time and a place within the faire where we all sit down with a turkey leg, garlic mushrooms and discuss treason.

I like the idea of the Faire, all except that is around $18 per person for admission. |

There use to be a time when getting coupons to the fair for half off was easy to come by. I will look into what kind of deals they have and what dates.
I know its not set in stone and we are still discusing it, but it does not hurt to look into.

I would also be down, we should I think have it somewhere near the border of IL and WI so no one has to travel that far with gas prices and what not _________________ "the true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination" |

I guess I am still in favor of the hotel thing...
because...
I would love to see Bob demonstrate some casting so I could see how it was done...I have never tried it...
and have John and Nick take us through some basics in swordsmanship so that maybe a few of us other Jedi could do some limited "sparring" at other events...
that sort of thing...
You are always welcome at my house....but I am not too centrally located...but the offer is there... _________________

I have no problem having it at someones house... just call it a road trip. I think the issue is we have many people who are not south eastern wisconsin like I am so its a much farther trip... if they are on road in IL for another few hours. The advantage of a house would be cool, to do props and what not.
Hotels are not a bad way to go if they are cheap enough I guess.
I am game foe anything... lets just keep in mind that we have other coming from farther away.

I'll have to see if my fiancee and I will be able to go depends on which day, but carpooling might be an option. have any dates been discussed?
I agree Dee, I like the idea of someone's house who has a garage big enough for space, and maybe outside demonstration for fighting. That way we won't get rained out. A hotel would work if our group is large enough.
I think ren faire would be too distracting - if I go there I'd want to enjoy the festival. In my opinion this would be better at someone's house or a hotel. |

We would definitely up for that if people are interested. _________________ Evil triumphs when those who are good are indifferent and do nothing. |
