It does seem to be coming along very nicely!

Though I just realized something... Rachel, didn't you start this thread to show the progress of your outfit? That just dawned on me. Laughing

Yeah...I feel like I have taken over Rachel's thread...but I honestly didn't want to start yet another thread for basically the same thing..

Embarassed

Hahaha no worries. I had 0 free time in the past few months, and this costume's been pushed down by other costumes I need to finish sooner.

I edited the title to reflect that it's not just me anymore. Wink

Well, it worked for Jay Laga'aia. Let's see if I can be 2 for 2 on this....

I managed to find this photo of Philip Appleton/Philip Delancy.

Which, after a few hours of internet searches under both of his names, that's the best/largest version of that photo I can find.

I did manage to find his website and his email address, though. I shot him an email, since the worst he can say is "No" or ignore me. We'll see if anything comes of it!

Hopefully he will answer you....so far I have had pretty good luck when I have contacted actors from the movies in the past....it is usually a 50/50 shot.

Well...

I am (hopefully) nearing the end of this project...

First off...I need to tell GrayJedi that her fabric was finally used...
I actually purchased all of the fabric for this project from Donna (Gray Jedi)...she had intented to do this costume...did not get around to it...and offered her fabric for sale...
I snapped it up immediately as I hate looking for fabric as I usually struggle with this color vs that color....this texture vs that texture...and knowing that Donna has a keen eye...I bought the fabrics that she chose.

Anyway...the outer coat is almost done...

Next up the boots...

First off...
thanks to Mosi...I have the shin guards ....

I have been looking for proper boots for many months...
since I really wanted this project done in time for the 3D release of The Phantom Menace...I felt that I needed to take what I could find (for now at least)...

I could only find one pair of suede boots in my size...sadly...they were gray suede...
so..
I moved on paying more attention to the roundness of the toe and the heel and sole of the boot than what the rest of the boot looked like.

I found this pair of inexpensive boots that had the right toe and sole and decided I could probably turn them into something useable...as noted...they were on sale for less than $40.00 - and the store had them in my size (which is often another hurdle...you may find a boot...but the store does not have it in your size).

The boots are too tall....and have this funky lambs wool trim....and some other straps...

soooooo....

they start out like this:

and so far I have removed the strap...the trim on top....folded down the other excess (for now....I will cut it and stitch it in place later)...
and...
so far we have this:

I will still need to remove more of that other "lambs wool" or cover it up in some manner...

but for now...
the boots will have to work...I also have to apply that "flap" that goes over the boot at the base of the shin guard.

Woo hoo! Philip answered me with photos!

He says he doesn't really remember too much about the costume, minus that it was really hot. Laughing

lol...
Yeah...I am guessing that big orange/red overcoat was made of wool...as was probably a lot of the rest of the costume...

as for me....

well..

I gotta say....that all of the hair pulling on this costume has been worth it...
The orange/red overcoat is done...
complete with those nasty cuffs...

I am down to the last element...the boots...and I pretty much have that situation well in hand...and should be done with them by the weekend..

As for the rest of the costume...

stick a fork in it ..

IT'S DONE!!

As far as the boots...
I have the right boot cut down and stitched...
The boot started out as tall as the boot in this photo on the left...

I still have to try to remove more of that funky "lambs wool"...but little by little...I am reducing it ....
you have to be careful not to get too carried away and cut the pleather...

Also to consider is that toe guard...

I tried one template...

but I think I will have to mount the leather to something rigid like sintra...

My goal for the rest of today is to get that other boot cut down and sewed so I can put away the sewing machine for a while.....

try walking in it to make sure it's comfortable and doesn't dig into the top of your foot. But I like the look.

Awesome work... given the fact that starfighter combat was my favorite part of TPM, it's hard to find words to describe how much I admire this project... hats off to Phyllis. Smile
