I at least got started on the helmet...

I used rub and buff silver on the goggles...

after the rim around the lenses dries overnight..
I will probably also do the part above the bridge of the nose in silver also...
but don't think I will paint the other part brown because of the black padded part...
unless I remove the padded part...
but..
well..
I will think about that for a while..

It looks like it's starting to come along. Smile

Just my opinion, but I don't think the goggles would look that bad painted brown but still having the black foam lining. Actually, it might look kind of nice.
Though if you really did want to replace the padding, it probably wouldn't be that hard to cut it off and then buy some brown material and wrap it around foam, and then just line your goggles with it. Or you could glue the brown material onto the padding that's already there-- just cover it.
Anyhow, just an idea. Though the black would probably look just fine, too.

Here it is with the part over the bridge of the nose also done in rub and buff and the goggles mounted to the helmet.

One thing I knew was going to be grief was that the elastic strap on the goggles would want to continually "ride up" ...so I drilled through the helmet and elastic under the lip of the helmet at the rear and installed a small set screw with a small toothed washer to hold that elastic strap down ...

I have been trying to get a little more research done..
and..

I thought I posted this...but can't remember where..

It gives a pretty good look at the harness:

It is from the Essential Guide to Characters...

Then I dug out my Ric Olie action figure...and took a photo of the front and back..

note in the back on the boots...
looks like 4 snaps on the back of each boot to hold the gaiters on?

And...
last year at Cyphan (a local Sci-Fi and Fantasy Con) there was a guy selling military surplus from all over the world..

I bought the belt below...and dug it out when I started looking at the harness pieces...
it has some weird harnesses on it...and I am thinking of using it...along with other things of course...
It has a design on it that I wish wasn't there...so I am trying to figure out a way to make that less noticeable.

So I discovered these photos of Padme's Episode 2 Naboo pilot costume that I apparently took during SW in Concert, and it's got SO much detail on the boots. I wish I could have gotten a look at the back of the boots though.

Rachel and Phyllis, I have a question for both of you. I'm working on my N-1 pilot costume too, and looking at one of the pictures that Jon (HazardThree) sent me, I'm pretty sure that there isn't any leather in the visible part of the harness (even though our standards say that it is to be made of leather). Have either of you noticed that? I'd post the picture, but unfortunately Flickr shrunk it down so much that you can't really tell.

Those boots look like they might have a modified soccer shin guard in front of the boot. Maybe its a custom shin guard. Great photos

I am making the "base" of the harness out of leather...
to be honest....
I am not sure what the harness was actually made of...

I have some of the pieces cut out of leather...but am not sure I am happy with what I have done..
and..
I have put the project on the side as things have been too hectic to devote the proper time to the project right now...
I hope to resume working on it once winter hits the Chicago area and things generally slow down a bit....

The front shin guard looks very similar to the Padme arena shin guard, too.

That's exactly what I'm using. Mosi is currently making the Padme shinguards, so I will be coloring them brown to match my boots. I'll have to make my own top of the boot flap, though.

As for the hardness, there's really NO good photos showing them, and I honestly think it's a mix of webbing and leather pouches. Hopefully some new photos will emerge thanks to the blu-ray.

Will Mosi consider making a second pair?

Would love to scratch that off my list of things to do..
