I have thought, for some time now that with my home being on a common Google-Earth photo mapping pass at fairly high resolution of playing a rather elaborate prank. If they are going to look at my property, let me give them a show!

Plywood is relatively cheap, and 1x2's for the frame are relatively cheap. I have some pretty decent painting skills... So I was thinking of making a flat 2-D top view X-wing for my back yard, full sized.

Who else thinks this is a good (if not totally dork-o-riffic) idea?

It would end up looking something like this.

it would be interesting to see how it would turn out. I would imagine that if it was flat though, you could tell it was flat from the picture, but still something to see. Plus, look at all that grass you wouldn't have to mow Laughing

Do it. If it's mounted a few feet off the ground it will cast a shadow and I think it will look convincing.

That was the idea, to put it up a couple/few feet off the ground as not to totally kill the yard Smile

The funny thing is, I'm on one of the approach paths for the airport. I wonder how many people will notice it from 5000 feet?

If this works out, then someone with a BIG yard can do the Millennium Falcon! (It'd be perfect for some large warehouse roof somewhere. Hmm..

You'll find out just how often Google updates their maps, that's for sure. Wink

Excellent idea. Google uses the US satellite images. They update every few years. At least I know my property images are about 5 years old.

He's still going forward with that? He's crazier than I thought! Smile

If it ever stops raining and tornado-threatening here, I can get started on this. I'd hate for my s-foils to end up in Ohio.

Another option would be to paint it on a deck. Then you could have a usable thing, not just a giant cutout. Smile

I'm guessing that George never did this, since he hasn't updated this thread in 2 years.
