Thank you Smile Yep, seems to have settled Smile The weather has not been cooperative, the grey skies mean there is not enough warmth to heat up my molds to cure the insides. Very frustrating!

But I have most of the seams joined with more latex so that is a bonus Smile I have also been able to peel back the front edge and the piece is definitely thick enough so long as we get some sun asap. The molds realy cannot be moved so I am relying on morning sunlight! If all else fails I may be able to get it on wheels to move around. Darn weather. Early but short summer.

I didn't mix the componants very well so there are a few issues with the cast, but it's for me so I don't mind and can fix it Smile So I now have another layer in the molds for a second cast as I have some people interested in these and I'd like to make as much use of the sporadic sun we are getting as possible! It's summer but Auckland is wet, very wet. We are basically on an isthmus so we are surrounded by moderately warm water which means lost of precipitation.

Anyway. The cast I have is slightly uneven so I'm going to have to stabilise it a bit more than I wanted but I also finally dug out my super pretty crepe fabric Smile I just need to iron some more also super pretty crepe as a back drop to get some nice photos Smile

I actually have a really amazing idea for my custom costume. Not sure how approvable it will be but I'll try and get all the elements needed just in case. And now to start making all the bias tape...... I'll need a lot.

Photos tonight woot! Smile

A few videos of painting the latex in and putting the molds together. Seeing a person with the molds helps give an idea of the size of the pieces needed!

I have a bad face rash! I didn't prep properly before wearing Rachi Sitra on Monday and have had a massive allergic reaction!

The paint itself is fine but the lead up to wearing it is something I am going to have to take extra care with. My current treatment for my auto immune disease interferes with my immune system (funnily enough) and means I am gathering allergies to products I haven't had issues with before.

So right now I'm working on my custom togruta first as I may be able to use another make up technique to minimise skin irritation and not have to try to match different face and body paints.

I like the idea of a soft pastel colour as seen in various CLone Wars background characters as I can probably achieve this by buffing powder in to my skin. I am also putting an air brush and compressor on my wishlist!

So I will probably use my Rachi pants (originally my SWTOR knight pants) and boots and possibly under tunic with same tabbards and obi (with a leather belt as per formal regulations with proper food pellets etc.) and make some long robes but with a fitted upper back and made from light materials with a bit of stretch (mechanical stretch not knit.)Also no longer than ankle length because floor length means I trip up Wink

Wow!!! Wow!!! Ashara just got the prettiest colour scheme I have yet to see on a togruta since TFU Shaak Ti!

My plans before were to be able to use my Rachi Stitra costume parts wil extra pieces using the came materials and some extra parts to make this generic Jedi in line with current requirements.

However I have to admit to not thinking about changing the colour of the Montral just so much!

Soooooooo, these are a bit dark and the better photos of her have my UI in the way. I'll take her to a quiet spot on Belsavis and get better screen shots.

I'm definitely also going to go on a Togruta hunt in SWTOR and The Clone Wars to get as wide a range of options as are possible.

Molds are soaped, ready to test the next mix of latex (hoping it cures quicker than in the bucket though it's nice to not have a layer of cured latex to break through) but my mix is decidedly bland looking.

It may be okay enough to cast (look how excited I am) but I'll know in the morning when some test latex has cured.

Okay so it's actually a splash on the carpet.

I may wind up with a magenta set on montral.

It hopefully will mean I have started on the "have one in the mold and one spare" loop I'll need for summer Smile

It looks much paler than it really is Smile Though there is some white mixed in this will go about three shades darker. This is so I can use far less pigment in painting.

The next layer will go in tomorrow.

Wow. Okay. It's cured enough with the increased exposure to air that I got the second and last stablising layer (will add a few filler bits tomorrow.)

It's definitely curing deeper than I feared, so hooray! But also yay for thickener doing the job and not inhibiting cure Smile Also it should mean I don't have to turn the darn thing as it is very very very heavy.

Thank you for the kind replies Smile

I feel so terrible! I had to bin the montral :/ I still have my set of too rigid montral and have started very wiggly and flexible lekku but I have been very ill for the last few months and just put the molds away because they are far too heavy. I'm also hoping and waiting for SWTOR togruta to become playable. And playing with clothing options to see what will work with RL requirements..
I think I'll wind up sticking with my plan of using my Rachi Sitra crepe fabric to make a long skirt and also get a belt cut and shaped and assembled.

I'm most worried about the belt! I have a lot of difficulty because the distance from my ribs to hip bones is less than the width of a standard belt.

I mean it doesn't look too bad but it is actually a bit painful.

I need to get more filler for the latex, and mix it in and figure out proportions. This summer looks to be a bit damp so I'm not sure on curing times on the pieces. But the fail I did have (so much fail, oh so much fail) helped work out what was absolutely needed to make these work. Hopefully I'll have some energy to make good on ideas Smile

But I do have a beautiful colour match for the headpiece: Quinacridone Magenta, Atelier Interactive paints. At least I think that is what I have. I know I got their perfect sith red as well.

New test run of using a highly pigmented skin and a non pigmented first filler seems to work! The latex is still flexible, the tint is at least a thin blush thick in the molds and the latex iis not slupling.

I'm going to see if my new contact glue will work to help join lekku to montral.

Oh and the addition of filler 2 means the seams and hair lines can be trimmed with a dremel! So excited Smile The super rigid test piece is going to get whittled down to a shape I can build a young Togruta on and see if I can trade for help with the mold making.

I'm trying to find some SWTOR gear that scream Jedi and fits in with the over all theme, but I also have an idea that involves a billion bias tape pieces and will definitely whisper "Jedi, oooo"

Photos next post if my camera is happy Smile
