Yesterday evening I realized what I donīt like on my helmet:
The whole design is too round! I cut a 3/4 ring, and thatīs wrong when you look at the reference pics.
So I draw a new plan, I hope to do the cutting within the next days, pics will follow...

It didn't look too round to me, for what it's worth. The A-Wing helmet, like the B-Wing helmet, seems to be nearly perfectly around at the back. I thought yours was pretty good...

Not much time during Christmas, at least I fixed the shield to the ring. Using putty for plastic models created havoc to the foam material (left cheak). Now Iīm using wall putty...

Working on...

Just for fun and the eventuality of loosing my A-Wing...
After the bad putty experience I needed something for playing from ToysRus...

After the first painting, looking "very impressive"...

I also started working on a DH 17, pics will follow.
Even pilots need something when grounded...

Great OD, your helmet looks great, I can only give advice, make it the vents once, then you will make it complicated, rest the putty will correct the little details but it looks very very good

with respect to support weapon, I prefer something more their own, a painted and customized nerf hand blaster, is more portable, especially within the narrow cockpit of an RZ Wink

Helmet looks great.

As for the weapon, a Nerf blaster takes much work so it doesn't scream "ten bucks at Walmart" anymore. Now I know that Nerfs are probably more expensive, and I don't know if Walmart has them.
Cockpit space is no problem, he can put the blaster under his seat.
I know X-wings have some kind of emergency kit under there, so why should an A-wing have no space available?

Well, I also donīt think itīs too large as I donīt have to store it in the cockpit. According technical data there should be a small cargo hold for 40kg of loading, enough for some cans of beer, a blanket and the belt with holster and blaster. Perfect equipment for "every" form of party...
Luis, I also thought of getting a smaller blaster for a New Republic Jedi, could you post a pic of yours? Even if itīs "uncivilised"...

well actually i have two options...

the Nerf N-Strike Nite Finder modified (to buy soon)

and a small but effective and reliable blaster "just in case"

Those look neat. I've been toying with the idea of buying a small toy gun of some sort and modifying it to look more Star Wars-y as well, something to carry with me in my B-Wing outfit, to put in a pocket or something. I wanted to carry a weapon of some sort, but I didn't want to put a holster on with my outfit, I just don't think a holster looks good with my B-Wing outfit.

Every pilot should have a weapon, but not every pilot needs to make it obvious that they have one. Wink

Nice, small and handy, Luis. The silver one reminds me of Harrison Fordīs Blade Runner pistol, a very nice piece...
And yes, I also thought of a small one to carry "inside" of the overall.
What about the idea of using a stolen imperial Scout blaster (Q-2s5 MOA) ? This should be one of the smallest "guns" availiable in the SW galaxy...Didnīt we get some during the Battle of Endor? I like itīs design and it should be a perfect pilots live insurance. And I like the idea of using the enemys weapons....

Blaster finished...

the busy end, never give weapons to your children!

Finishing the Blaster I remembered many techniques from my model building time, long long ago...it was fun doing this, and still itīs fun to play with it. Watch out, Imps!

Helmet last stage...
Today I gave it the last coat of putty, tomorrow the first coat of gray colour will follow.
Iīm really pis... off working on this, so I donīt even try to make it movie acurate any more. Iīm going to paint the vents and donīt care for details any more.

At least the "overall look" is quite o.k., I think.

Last update:
I had to "open" the cheaks a little bit and aplied some putty on the shield, but that really was my last modification...

Looking forward to get it gray tomorrow....

Great job OD, looks amazing, do not forget the vents, then it will make you make complicated ... the rest is just perfect to fill with caulk small corner, by the way are you going to paint like in the movies or you'll do custom work? was the same question he asked me Dirty Tusken

The blaster looks great too, with respect to the use of biker blaster, not a bad idea, although I am a little stubborn with the idea of using their own custom blaster

The helmet looks pretty good so far. I'm sorry that it sounds like you're getting frustrated though, but that just means that you're on the right track. Smile Believe me, when I made my B-Wing helmet I was constantly getting frustrated with it... But I stuck with it nevertheless.
Personally, I would add in the vents, not just paint them in. It shouldn't be that hard to scratch a couple sets of vents in, and it would make it look much more finished. But that's just me. It is your helmet, after all.

Nice blaster, too. I really need to whip up one for my outfit. But I don't want a big one, I want something to stick into a pocket or something.
Actually, I got a blaster yesterday that I might use. My mother brought it over after their charity had received too many toys. It's kind of cool, it's a blaster (not Star Wars) in one mode, and than it can switch into a second mode where flips up and it looks like it has a blade on it. It lights up, makes sounds and such, too. If I painted it up it would look pretty neat.
Unfortunately, it's too big to put inside a pocket, but I've been toying with the idea of setting it inside my chestbox (once my new one is made in plastic)...
