Do you know of a pattern I can use as guide to make this costume? I haven't had any luck on my searches. This "bell" shape is harder than I thought.

After years of thinking about it, I finally mustered some guts to try and make it. This is my favorite Amidala costume and if I am to make an Amidala costume, this has to be it.
I have a very rough idea on how to make it. Any help you can give me would be wonderfull, specialy with the headpiece, like tools and materials I can use to make it. Shapping the hair I got figured, it's a lot like a Katsura wig, but the "crown" itself it's giving me some nightmares, can't get the shape right.

This is a proyect for the 3D re-release.

Does anyone knows the number of panels seamed together?
As far as I can see it's 24 for the dress and 12 for the sleeves. Is that correct?

woo! found it!!

25 panels on dress
15 panels on sleeves

(This is what Trisha Biggar says in Dressing a Galaxy about the fabric:
"I considered velvet, but with some of the section being cut on the cross, the reversal of the velvet pile would have been extremely obvious and ugly under film lighting. I chose instead a fine silk-satin cord, which was mounted on a more densely-woven silk prior to construction, and each panel (approximately twenty-five in the dress and fifteen in each sleeve) was self-piped." )http://boards.theforce.net/costuming_and_props/b10019/25581597/p1/

I've never ordered from them, but you may want to search for reviews on them on google. Just to see what kinds of experience people have had, if they've shared.

In all the years I've been planning and researching for this costume, I don't think I've ever crossed upon one like this:

Taking out the fact that it's made of velvet and you can bearly see the gold trims, I'd say this is the most accurate costume I've ever seen.

Yeah, that's pretty good. I like the headpiece. I've seen a lot that get the hair part too big, but hers looks great!

still working on this, not much improvement, nor pictures yet. Finished my work on the pattern, now it's the cutting and sewing.
Haven't figured out how to make the crown, if anyone has any pointers, please!!!!!

The one on this page is really accurate, especcially the headdress scale. I don't think they're an RL member, but you could contact them maybe:

First trial fabric was too dark, I think the one I recently found is quite the match.

So far I'm still trying to get the funnel shape right, so before I cut the actual dress (this new fabric is too expensive to make mistakes with), I'll finish the under dress first, and then I'll have the perfect pattern for the gown. It is being done in canvas fabric, just like the original. (I have no fitting pictures yet.) Just started sewing the 25 pieces.

I also found a fabric, that I think is great for the maiden dresses that go with this Amidala gown.

It's hard to find the exact tone color of yellow, but I think this is close enough. Of course, the flash makes it look lighter. There're two fabrics in the last picture, top one could be for the sash and the bottom one is for the dress.

All I need now is yellow velvet for the hooded robe that goes over the dress.

All 25 panels of under dress sewn together.

Now I need some crinoline wires rings to make it hold the shape.

Wow, great progress! It's looking good, it looks like you're getting the shape right...which is hard to do!

Amadalia

It's looking great. My old altered child Halloween costume from 1999 rotted in my closet and all I have is the headdress but the red jewel of Zenda is missing and the wig is a bit of a mess on the edges.

I ordered two of these:

The hoops are made of a strong flexible light weight metal frame that can be adjusted to decrease or increase the fullness of the slip; just how I needed it.

Found this page on wikia about crinoline skirts, it shows you how to seat with it, which is a good thing, 'cause I was wondering how to seat with this dress, hahahaha! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crinoline

In addition to this dress and the two yellow handmaiden dresses, I'm also making the throne seat, but that one will take a lot of time, so I won't bother with it until next year.
