Yeah, that's the proper way to sit in a crinoline. If you do sit, try to sit on a cushion though because sitting on the steel hoops isn't super comfy.

I bet that's why Natalie Portman looked so stiff in the scene, haha!

Well, I went to the "trek" side with this one, using logic and mathematical calculations to solve the issue of the correct number of panels in the dress. It turns out I was correct from the begining"
They are 24 and not 25.
So I took out 1 panel and now it fits me like a glove (first try was too baggy)

Based on these pictures:

From the front you can see 3 orbs, and from the side you can see four. That mean there is one orb in the front, one orb in the back, and two orbs in the sides, for a total of 6 orbs.

Each orb occupies a two-panel-space, and between each orb is another two-panel-space.

I don't know how to crochet, so the red design on the headpiece is a real pain.

I found this that, 'though it's not the same design, I think looks close enough, and even looks like crochet.

you could also try painting it on or very carefully gluing the correct type of thread down instead of attempting to find something that was 'close but not quite'

I would need closer pictures of the headpiece, and from different angles, to make a pattern. I only have the one I posted.

I think is a fair looking headdress.

hey, thats not bad! Amadalia it looks like it is accurate, from what i can tell, but the photo is kind of far away, would need a closer one to be sure. I think it looks good. did this person make this for themselves or did someone make it for them on this site?

It says this is the headdress I made to go with the dress, so I'm assuming that means she made it...? It looks great, though there's too much of her hair showing around the face part of the headdress. But, I'm sure that would be pretty easy to fix, just by pulling it back more.

Just received the crinoline skirts, and I'm in the process of attaching and adjusting the wires to the shape of the dress.

I'm doing a hem to all 24 pieces of the red fabric and making the piping cord.

Quote:
There is a cord trim between each panel, and this is how it's done:

Also, look here on how to make piping cord: https://www.farthingalescorsetmakingsupplies.com/tips.php?article=24

Searching for ideas to make the headdress, I was looking at this:

made think that perhaps a bigger and fuller in the ends appliance like this one could be suitable for the hairstyle

Anyone knows of a pattern I can use as reference of the sleeves?

this costume looks quite good, but there's someting about the sleeves I don't like. Headdress is too big, but I like the textures of the "blades" (on the sides)

There is also how she made the headdress:

I am using one of my patterns from Simplicity #7756 View A from my renaissance collection: http://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/simplicity/7756/7756.jpg
It will certainly need A LOT of re-configuring, but it worked for me as a base. Smile

*not sure if it is in print any more though Sad

My biggest issue so far with this costume is finding the fur. Sad

Thanks a lot!! gave me something to go on.

About the fur fabric... umm. Are there any Capri Store where you live?
There I found a fur trim about 2 1/2 inches wide. Came in a roll of 4 yds.
The fabric for the sleeves I found on another store practically on the other side of the island (where I live). They still have, but it's $20 per yard.
I'll take a better picture of mine to show you the quality of that fur fabric.

... and so it begins... the construction of the actual dress.
So far, a played and pulled my hairs out with the underdress, 'till I was satisfied with the results. Now I'm moving onto the outterdress.

Fabric I'm using

Closeup

Cutting 24 pieces of pattern for upside bell shape dress.

Red thread

Cord for piping (will need a whole roll, maybe two for the entire project)

Sewing machine foot for piping
Right - normal foot / Left - zipper foot
use zipper foot

Making cord piping

Closeup cord piping

Then I trim all the edges with the hemming machine.

Fur trim for the tabbard, collar, etc.

Fur fabric for the sleeves inside

These are the ONLY furs around here that are not black. Lucky for me the color shade between them is almost identical.

Started working in the pattern for collar, tabbard and golden design. Sleeves are giving me some trouble but... I'll trust the Force on this one, haha!

I'm out of cord for the piping, and can't find it anywhere. Sad
