At last the second Chewie is 95% complete. Need to add some more hair on the feet, get the lip snarl working and it's good to roll.

This is one is more in keeping with the original, I made a new head sculpt entirely with a deeper muzzle. The hair is darker and a little shorter in places.

Already starting to cut out the pattern for Chewie Mark III!
I LOVE LATCH HOOKING!!!!!

Couple of pics!

The old one is somewhere in Florida, last I heard of him!
A postcard would be nice once in a while. Very Happy

The overall plan is to make 5 complete costumes and about 10 heads.
See how long the enthusiasm lasts.

If that is the one that was sold to Grinch in Tampa....I think he's already traveled yet again because the thing is too heavy for the guy to wear due to old injuries to neck and back. I forgot where he said it was heading, but Chewie I is on the move again.

That is correct, it only weighs about 8kgs in total, can't make it any lighter than that.

Dougie, can you give us a step by step for your latch hooking process?? maybe with some pictures???

You seem to have superhuman ability with it!

My wookiee has unfortunately been sitting by the wayside these past several months as i don't have much time to sit and hook. Any suggestions you have would be great!!

Thanks for the compliment, I don't know about that Laughing

This is the only shot I have of the latching, it's spaced about 2 or 3 notches apart (about half an inch) but up to an inch in some areas.

The areas I found that need the most coverage are the top side of the forearms, shoulders and knees. U might want to latch a little closer in these areas - less hair per latch but more latches.

I have been using LaTrend kanekalon (matt finish - very important, u don't want a shiny wookiee)
It doesn't need to be straightened beforehand either.

Also I don't believe in using a hackle, it can easily mixed by hand as you go. Some might dissagree but that's the way I like to do it.

Hi Dougie,

Been following your post for a while and loving your work.
Just wondering where your getting your La Trend hair from. I presume its within the U.K. some where i think i remember a thread where you mentioned you lived in Ireland.

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Thanks Ted, I get most of it from www.afrocare.co.uk or www.buyhair.co.uk depending on what colour I'm after.

Shipping would probably be very pricey to the US.
