Also, any resources for buttons? I haven't had luck searching our few fabric stores/resources.

Pam's tutorial says that she used cover buttons from Walmart. You can see her picture here.

Yeah, our Walmart is pretty terrible. I will keep out on the hunt. I have some buttons that will do for now, but I'm not a fan of the large gap between them and the belt pieces.

You could try taking the backs off the buttons. That might make them fit more closely.

I got mine from JoAnn's. You could try them online, if you don't have a local JoAnn's. http://www.joann.com/joann/home/home.jsp

I tried that, but I think it's a combination of the rivets I used and the thin aluminum flashing for the plates. Trial and error, here I come!

Thanks for the hint for Joann's online!

Yeah, I think 3" should be plenty. My plan is to do some sort of shirring or gathering with elastic around the waist that will be hidden by the belt. I'm not sure how it will work, but I'm going to try Smile .

I did that too. I was tired of futzing with the blousing all the time. I sewed a big band of elastic to the outside (could've done it to the inside, but I was blousing and pinning at the same time on my dressform, so there you go. The elastic gets hidden under my belt, so no big deal.

Is there a resource for Leia's initial weapon in ANH? Not the stormtrooper weapon she takes.

It is a version of the ddc defender blaster. She also uses a similar gun in ROTJ.

I just got in my jet set from Joann's online (yay coupon!) Smile I'm on version 5 of this dress already Surprised Every time I make it, I learn something new I should have done. Last time my sleeves were too short. 60" wide fabric is still too short when you have a 6' arm span. I'm making mine a top and bottom sewn at the waist seam. There will be elastic in the waist to help with the gathers and to keep the blousing where I want it over the belt. My sleeves will finally be long enough, my last ones were like 3/4 sleeves on me. I'm not too tall, 5'6", but I have strangely long legs and arms with a short torso.

Just need to find some new boots, mine are destroyed after 4 years of trooping lol

I'm thinking about taking the plunge and getting the Jet Set from Joann's for my Leia dress. Not that I don't have plenty of sewing to do Razz, but I so want this costume!

I'm eagerly awaiting the fabric from Hancock that Pam suggested. I'll let you know how it turns out. : )

Turns out I have to remake my belt since I lost some weight. Smile Pain but can you really argue about that? lol

I've been doing vinyl but thinking about taking the plunge to leather. Any other Leias out there with an opinion?

I did the costume with a leather belt initially which is great , but the slightly more flexible vinyl is a little more comfortable around the waist. Both look good, but the leather may hold up a little longer. Mine was painted white and after a while the paint cracked at bends in it so I am remaking mine along with the dress more screen accurate since it was one of my first SW costumes. I never have done the hair to go with it yet, but will do that if I ever get time to work on my own stuff.

One thing you might want to get if you are using the Jetset from JoAnn is a bottle of anti-fray liquid. I put extra rows of stitching around the neckline and it still threatened to run due to my dress form's relatively fat neck, so I applied a little Fray Check to the edges to keep it from separating too much.
