Looking good and great progress as usual! (duh) Very Happy One of the signs of a great costumer - making something so detailed that no one will ever see it once its underneath the gown! bow

So, Ver, when all is said and done, how many handmaidens will it take to get you into the finished gown? Razz

Beautiful Vera! I have to ask, are/were you a dancer? Your body position just screams dancer to me (not a bad thing at all you just look like you could have been standing next to me at the barre for all those years!)

Besides politics, history, etc., I think they teach you things like posture when you become part of Naboo's Legislative Youth Program.

I bow before your talent, Vera. The corset details are great! This will be one great example of costume when its finished. Smile

Unrelated to the topic itself, that remark remembers me a bit of a quote from Firefly tv show's episode Shindig: "Why Banning Miller, what a vision you are in your fine dress. It must have taken a dozen slaves a dozen days to get you into that getup. 'Course your daddy tells me it takes the space of a schoolboy's wink to get you out of it again." (Sigh ... have to watch Firefly again, soon. *g*)

That's her chemise, she hasn't show pics of the corset yet. The corset will go on top of the chemise.

Very true but unfortunately none of us has had the chance to go through that program... so her real life perfect posture must come from something real life too.

I couldn't dance to save my life! I actually really want to learn, but I'm probably too old to take ballet classes. I guess I picked that up from gymnastics

I'm down to hand-sewing on my corset, so now I'm starting to plan out my hoop skirt. I was thinking that this dress seems more flat in the front so I was thinking about going with more of a early victorian style cage crinoline, just with a less extreme back. Anyone done hoopskirts before?

I've made hoops before, but just large circles with hoops of boning through them.

My only hope is one I bought. But that one you have a pic of is Truly Victorian, isn't it? Those patterns are usually very easy to work with, so it shouldn't be a problem for someone with your skills.

I've never made a hoop skirt before (I'll be making one for this costume) but from my years of Civil War re-enacting, I can tell you that if the front of your dress is a bit heavy, it will push your perfectly round hoops closer to your legs and create the "flat" look that you can see in the picture of the costume on the mannequin. I'm just planning to go with round hoops because I know the front of my dress will push it pretty flat.

Great progress! I'm jealous! My costume is sitting on my dress form gathering dust while I work on commissions. I really want to get back to my gown!! Rolling Eyes
