UPDATE: 4-29-10

Our Team Page is now operational!

Just follow the magic links to join the team ....

http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/MakingStridesAgainstBreastCancer/MSABCFY11Illinois?team_id=728852&pg=team&fr_id=28096

Make your own personal page after joining the team...
remember to add a photo...

UPDATE 7-27-2010

Let the games begin!

Some of he prizes for this years fundraising are shown below....
This year will be a little different...
The first person to hit $400.00 gets first pick..
The second person to hit $400.00 in donations gets second pick...
and so on...

I will be likely add more smaller prizes....

Here they are:

1 AND 2 prizes added 8-12-10

1)A size small child's Jedi costume, complete with outer tunic, tabards, obi, cheater undertunic and belt. Small child = about a size 7. This is a uni-sex costume. It looks a little "girly" because it is on a female dress form. The form is also actually too large to show the costume correctly.

2)An adult Jedi costume (Karate Gi style) that would include outer tunic, tabards, obi, cheater undertunic and belt.
there will be no photo of this one because it will be "made to order" in the colors that the winner designates.

3)
A complete Child's Jedi costume - this is a child's "large" -approximate child's size 12-14. Aimee tried on the outer tunic for me...and it was a bit too small for her...so that may help in sizing...
It includes everything, robe, outer tunic, cheater undertunic, tabards, obi and belt....

4) is a Rebel Fleet Trooper shirt and vest combo. I have the ability to make the shirt/vest combo in either L, XL, or XXL. These pieces are canon (shown in the photo is my RFT...but yours will be identical).
The shirt will have the bib and the vest will have all of the pockets in the back.

5)

A "Support our Troops" bag for a lap top or whatever.

6)

This trio of action figures were released at Wal Mart only and were available the day of the release of "The Revenge of the Sith" on DVD...
they were limited edition and sold out same day...

.
remember ....it is easier than you may think to get $400.00 in donations....
and...
remember to utilize our Team Page at MSABC to record your off line donations also...

A word about fundraising...

this is what I have done...last year I raised over $1,600.00

I have always joined our on-line team.

I have always set up a personal page with my photo taken at the previous year's event.

I have always sent an e-mail to all of the people in my e-mail address book to let them know that I was doing this walk. It is always amazing to me the generosity of my friends and family in donating to this walk. Many of them have lost loved ones to cancer and would like to do something in memory of these people. I always let them know that it is ok if they don't want to or can't donate (due to the present economy especially) but request that they pause and remember those lost no matter what.

I always encourage an on line donation utilizing a credit card..but also let folks know that it is ok to send a check...I make sure to tell them to make the check out to the American Cancer Society..and not to me. If someone mails me a check...I go to my on-line page and record the donation as an off-line donation. This not only helps our team total...it also helps me keep track of what $$ I will be turning in. You can also record off line donations of cash.

I remember Darryl telling me last year that he was reluctant to fundraise...but mentioned it where he worked...he was stunned at how many people came to him to donate and/or purchase a pink armband.
Darryl did amazingly well last year.....so don't be afraid to ask.
I know that I don't like to ask for donations either...but the work of the American Cancer Society is important as it goes not only to research...but to support and assistance to those fighting.

We also have two "Donation Stations" set up - Cheryl has set up one for the north end of things:

http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/MakingStridesAgainstBreastCancer/MSABCFY11National?team_id=728852&pg=team&fr_id=28096

and I have set up one for the south side of things:

http://www.midwestgarrison.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10988

If you can attend one of these "Donation Station" events...that would be AWESOME...

Lastly...the armbands....

Remember that all team members will be getting a pink armband as a thanks for doing the walk.
For a donation of $20.00 - anyone else can "purchase" an armband for the memory of a loved one. The armband will be made with that person's name on it...one of us will wear it during the walk...and I mail out the armband's to the person making the donation after the walk concludes....so...
make sure to get addresses if you "sell" an armband.

This is the 5th Anniversary of the Aurora walk and the Midwest Garrison has been there since the beginning.

Yes....I saw that...

I set a more conservative goal because of the economy...last year we raised over $4,000.00......
but the economy was a little less sucky last year...

but....we will see how far we can go...and see if "Theresa's Trotters" catch us again...

Very Happy

You have donated...
one of the armbands is your mom's...
but it is not in the photos..

I didn't put up photos of all of the memorial armbands I have...
I just put up photos of the team member's memorial armbands so they could check for accuracy.

One of our walkers will wear your mom's armband the day of the walk and it will be mailed to you after the completion of the walk.

Thank you again for supporting this effort Tony!

I knew this sounded very familiar, I just didn't remember.
I'm glad I'll have a few patches to go with the cause and event now.

We received the patches via FedEx today!! Rob and I will be bringing them to the MSABC and the Boo at the Zoo event to give to the people that purchased them. Rob and I were first told that the 501st merch can not be sold to the Rebel Legion. I thought it was unfair that the Rebel Legion can sell to the 501st but not vice versa. Well, Rob looked on the 501st site and we CAN sell the merch to Rebels. These patches, however, sold like wildfire on the 501st legion boards. Rob and I hope to make more merch in the future because we raised a lot of money on just 200 patches. It was $3 per patch and $5 if u wanted to donate. I think we raised $300 in donation for this patch. That's pretty good since the remaining patches after the garrison sold on the 501st boards in less than a day!!

sigh...

"we know drama"

I am glad that it all worked out in the end JJ...

Wink

At any rate...yes...
the group is going to be VERY large this year...
probably because of the "Boo! At The Zoo" immediately following...
I am sure a lot of people figured...
what the heck...
gonna be out and dressed...
might as well do both...
it is gonna be a hectic day start to finish..

I was going to do both, but unfortunately I developed plantar fasciitis this past summer. I tried running for exercise, and the damage was done after 5 days. It is better now, but I occasionally get twinges of pain when I am not diligent.

Whew....
ok...hopefully everyone got home ok...

And how nice was it that they asked us to lead the walk off?
In the event that you did not hear the one announcement, the photo taken at the starting line right before we did step off was for The American Cancer Society!

To those who wore memorial armbands...THANK YOU! When I double checked them last night...I had gotten all of them back for mailing. Valissa...I do still have one of yours...Gil Gregory.

Now to gather my thoughts, photos, and the endless lists to make Mission Reports. I think I will head to the Library tomorrow to load my photos to Photobucket...much faster...

anyhow...
to help with filing the Mission Report..
here is the list of who was at Making Strides....
there were some last minute change-ups....
and the day was such a blur
that I really don't remember....
