Hey all, wampadude here, and I found this thread and figured I would share the insides of my wampa costume. I know the techniques are a bit unconventional for the rest of your costumes. I just wanted to spark some creative juices within the RL costuming community!

The costume consists of 5 major parts, the body, the 2 arms, the legs and the head. The legs use modified drywall stilts and the arms are connected to the body via a hollow pvc/plastic conduit frame. The head is foam on a bicycle helmet with latex face, horns and ears

Here is the complete costume.

Here is the upper body skeleton, it is all based around a ALICE military backpack.

I skinned the frame using half inch foam and built up some areas to give it more accurate muscle structure. There is no framework for the legs, they are just foam pieces sewn into the fur. With this pic you can see the size of the costume compared to myself. I am only 5'4"!

Here is a pic of the head while still working on the latex

Here I am in just the legs

I am able to reach my arms outside of the body, to take a break and take the head off while still up on the stilts.

More pics of the costume and video of it in action can be found on my personal blog

Yep, I will be at CV all 4 days and it looks like the wampa is in demand. I plan on being in costume at the convention on Friday and Saturday. I will be in a Hoth walkthrough with Snowtroopers, a General Veers and a Vader on Friday at 1:30-3, working Guard duty at the TK helmet room Friday night at 6-7 and on Saturday I will be wandering around throughout on Saturday until the 501st group photo at 4. I want to go to the RL booth with its Hoth theme and I had a request to swing by the tattoo pavillion to meet some of the artists. There is also a Wampa squad of Mando Mercs that want to hunt me down for a pic.

I will head to the Ice Bar at the convention for both days too. The wampa working there will be there at the begining and end of the convention hours, I might go and fill in some of the blanks or even hang out a while and have 2 wampas in there at once!

And also will be in costume at Ice Bar right down the street Thursday night. There are a lot of 501st folks going to this one. Here is the post about that event:

The costume is amazing. My wife is still talking about it. My brother in law wants to see it.

I finally weighed it yesterday. 75 lbs with 55 lbs on the upper body alone. That explains why my shoulders are still sore a week after CV! I really need to modify the inside and add more padding.

This was totally amazing!!! Beautiful job with this costume. You were majorly impressive when you showed up at the RL booth. We've got a couple of really good photos of you. Will post up on the CV photo thread once my husband returns from his out-of-town trip with the camera -- hopefully by this upcoming weekend.

I think it's incredibly funny that you have this costume and you live in Florida, though. Wow, the heat and humidity were something!

Yeah, probably not the best choice to make when it comes to a Florida outfit! That is why I am taking what I learned from CV and putting some Handy Coolers inside. I talked with the guy in the Bossk outfit and he had one of these... they are incredible! It evaporates water and drops temperatures by 30*.
