Thanks for the reply!

Two questions I have, my tunic only extends to about where you can see it cut off in the images. Now most of the tunics I see come down much farther. Is that a problem?

Also is it bad that my tabards cross as much as they do? Is it something I will have to fix or do I have some creative liberty because its generic

Thanks again!

The outer tunic, at least, should cover your rear-end.
So past the 'underwear' line.
So a probably a bit longer than what you have in the pic...

As for the tabards, nearly, if not all tabards run parallel under the
obi, and extend past the outer tunic.

While there is ofcourse some creative liberty, these rules
are pretty much set.

Other than that, both material choice and construction look pretty
good to me Wink

I concur. Here's how you know if the tunic is long enough: wear it over pants with back pockets. The tunic should be long enough so that no matter how you move, those pockets are always covered, and it should always extend below the rise of your pants. Remember, a tunic is not a shirt; it is meant to have length. This is especially true if you are taller - the taller you are, the more length you need.

That's going to kill me, I started with a very limited amount of this fabric and I don't know if I have enough to make it longer. If I do will having a seam in it hurt my chances at acceptance?

It's not too bad, but here's a tip - the film costumes actually had the bottom of the tunic sewn on at the waist to form a pleated "skirt;" the hemline was covered by the obi. If you can get more fabric, just sew it along the waist under the obi. Then you get a longer AND more accurate tunic!

Nonetheless, it's not as bad as it could be, and I quite like it. You would get accepted with the length you have; I have seen far shorter, lol. But yes, if you can lengthen it, it would make a great difference.

I think I have enough to extend it. I will have to measure and see what exactly I need. The reason I am so strapped for material is I bought a set of curtains from a lady on Craigslist because I loved the color and I have no idea where they are from.

I'll do some measuring and looking and report back in.

Thanks for the kind words.

That's good to hear... I may still lengthen it if I have enou fabric but now it's not such a high priority. Now as for the tabards, is it okay if they overlap as long as they run parallel or do they need to not cross at all? I really like the way that they look ithe first pictures but if I won't get accepted then obviously that is a no go. I think if I have to I will just change the lie and add a waistline bend to them parallel and have them just touch.

You definitely don't want the tabards to cross at all, either in the front or the back. You can modify them in the front by sewing a small angle in them so that when they're being worn, they hang parallel to each other. Does that make sense?

I'll try and get a couple shots of mine up so you can see what I mean. It's probably easier to show than to tell, y'know?

Well the pictures that you see there are kind of the way it is for the back, It sewn to the obi but I dont think that the cross there is enough to hurt anything is it? I can definitely sew in the angle to make them meet and hang straight in the front.
