I've been wanting to make this dress for a while now. I had a decent fabric in my stash, but it wasn't exactly what I wanted to use in the long run. It was crinkled and close in color, but didn't have that sheen like the original, so I always put it off. No need to take all that time on sub-par fabric.
Today, while fabric shopping for ANH Leia gown fabric, I stumbled into the PERFECT fabric for this gown! It's pre crinkled and has a backing layer that smooth with pad stiches holding the two together. It has the same weave and feel as the original and even the same sort of sheen. I scanned a picture for now because I was so excited and I wanted to share my find with everyone. It was $10/yd at 54" wide.
Unfortunately the scanner at work crushed it and killed the sheen, I'm going to photograph it when I get home in low light with a flash like the original was for a better texture/color match. Scanners are aweful for this kind of thing lol

EDIT: Better picture taken with flash!

GREAT find, Benae! Don't you just love it when you stumble on something that ends up being perfect?! I can't wait to see your progress on this gown. Smile

I haven't been this excited over fabric since 2008 when I found the corset dress fabric Very Happy Now that I've taken a flash photo and compared it to the flash photo of the real one, I'm even more excited! I've already drawn out a pattern for the skirt. I'm going to have to drape the bodice as I'm not too sure about my drafts on that. Luckily I have my original fabric to mock this up on! 27 days... I can do this! I'll be using some small chunky beads instead of the shells as I don't have the time or resources to dye, drill, etc. It's the headband and clips that may trip me up in this race against time... but I have ideas for those too Wink

If you need to, you could always do something temporary for the clips and etc. and then make them more permanent/nicer after CV. I'd say you're pretty ambitious for starting a project this close to CV, but I have no room to talk, I've got so many things I still want to get done! Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Good luck! Smile

Out of the way - Kristin's on the costume warpath again! Laughing

Good luck with this, BQ. I'm sure it'll come out great as usual.

Wow, the skirt was easier than I thought, I got the mock up done in about an hour. I need to tweak the front panels a tiny bit more and I'll be happy enough with it to dive into the good fabric Very Happy 15 more days for me... I can do this!

Front

Back

The mock up fabric was my original crinkly fabric I was going to use. It drapes the same way as my good stuff at least Smile

Wow, that fabric is a fantastic find!
I'm kinda in the same boat as you were - have fabric for the costume, but it's not as accurate as I'd like it to be.

You can do it Kristin Very Happy

*shame face* I haven't been up to getting the fabric I have photographed but I may be able to get it tomorrow. Not sure how accurate it is, so no worries if it's not good enough Smile Can figure some other use for it... hmmm.

Thanks ladies! This bodice is driving me nuts. Just when I think I got it, I don't. I'll be plugging away all night until I'm happy with it. Sleep... what's that?!
Oh, and I managed to make the headband and clips from foam sheets! I need to pick up paint for them this week.

It does look fantastic! (Here I am wishing my tummy could look that great! ...*sigh*)

I imagine the hardest part will be the bodice. I hope it doesn't take too long for you to figure out, that can be so frustrating. Mad
